Cricket World Cup Final Betting Odds: England v New Zealand

July 13, 2019

England and New Zealand face off in the Cricket World Cup final at Lord’s on Sunday, with both teams aiming to win the 50-over crown for the first time.

Eoin Morgan’s men overcame a sputter in the middle of the competition to charge their way through to the final, justifying their claim as favourites in the betting odds. The Three Lions had to beat the Black Caps and India to keep their hopes alive in their final group games.

They performed well under pressure to secure their semi-final berth, where they were pitted against Australia. The Aussies had got the better of England in the group game, but the host nation were ruthless, putting their rivals to the sword with ease to reach the final for the first time in 27 years.

New Zealand bested India in their semi-final clash, although the contest had to be held over two days due to the weather. India were the favourites going into the game, but the Black Caps’ relished their underdog status. Kane Williamson’s men made a score just over 200, leaving them at risk to India’s vaunted batting line-up.

However, Trent Boult removed the top order, including Virat Kohli to put New Zealand in command. Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni tried to repair the damage after their side were reduced to 92-6, but the ultimately fell short, allowing the Black Caps to advance.

There are several betting markets available for the final as there have been throughout the competition, and we’ll now look at the best betting odds, highlighting where the value is for punting on the contest.

Will Stokes fire for England?

England have been a team transformed since Jason Roy recovered from his hamstring injury. The two games that the Three Lions lost on the bounce came when James Vince replaced Roy as the opener alongside Jonny Bairstow. He failed to fire, leaving England with a lack of impetus at the top of the order. Since Roy has returned the Three Lions have regained their swagger. Roy and Bairstow have been imperious in their form, leading the charge.

It has allowed Joe Root behind them to play his natural game. England have big-game players throughout the line-up, featuring Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes down the order. The openers have more opportunity to lead the run column and that’s reflected in their value at 4.00Bet €100 to win €4003/1Bet £100 to win £400+300Bet $100 to win $4003.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$4003.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp400-0.3333Bet RM100 to win RM400 . Stokes has been in excellent form and coming in at number five he will have license down the order. At 10.00Bet €100 to win €10009/1Bet £100 to win £1000+900Bet $100 to win $10009.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$10009.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp1000-0.1111Bet RM100 to win RM1000  in the cricket betting odds he presents great value to lead England’s run scoring in the final.

New Zealand’s batting line-up has not been able to fire on all cylinders during the tournament. They’ve been reliant on the form of their skipper Williamson to carry the load. Fortunately for the Black Caps, their bowlers have been excellent more often than not to amend for the low totals. Williamson made another half-century in the semi-final against India, although Ross Taylor led the way with an innings of 74.

The Black Caps need the rest of the line-up to improve against the Three Lions, including Martin Guptill, who has underwhelmed in the World Cup. Tom Latham top scored against England in the defeat at the Riverside and he does present value in the World Cup betting odds at 7.50Bet €100 to win €75013/2Bet £100 to win £750+650Bet $100 to win $7506.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$7506.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp750-0.1538Bet RM100 to win RM750 , but it’s hard to look past Williamson, especially in a big game. Back the New Zealand skipper to lead the run column at 3.00Bet €100 to win €3002/1Bet £100 to win £300+200Bet $100 to win $3002.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$3002.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp300-0.5000Bet RM100 to win RM300 .

Rashid can deliver the World Cup for England

England’s bowlers were on point against Australia in the semi-final, reducing the Aussies to 14-3 inside the opening five overs of the game. Chris Woakes was outstanding removing David Warner and Peter Handscomb, while Jofra Archer dismissed Aaron Finch first ball. Adil Rashid also performed well, coming to the fore for the first time in the World Cup.

Mark Wood and Liam Plunkett have off days, but have been reliable in the competition. As a result, it’s a tough one to decide who to go for to lead the wicket column. Archer was brought into the team to make the difference, but there’s not a great deal of value to be found with the bookies at a best price of 4.00Bet €100 to win €4003/1Bet £100 to win £400+300Bet $100 to win $4003.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$4003.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp400-0.3333Bet RM100 to win RM400 . Instead take Rashid to continue his resurgence at 5.00Bet €100 to win €5004/1Bet £100 to win £500+400Bet $100 to win $5004.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$5004.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp500-0.2500Bet RM100 to win RM500 .

The Black Caps will be hopeful that their potent bowling attack is at its best against England at Lord’s. Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry have been excellent to guide their side to the final. They had a rare off day in their defeat to England, but were on point against India, removing their top order to hand New Zealand control of the game.

Mitchell Santner provided efficient spin during the middle overs, keeping India under pressure. However, they will need to be even better against the power of England’s line-up. Mitchell Starc proved that England can be vulnerable against left-arm pace earlier in the tournament. Boult has the same ability, although his value of 3.50Bet €100 to win €3505/2Bet £100 to win £350+250Bet $100 to win $3502.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$3502.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp350-0.4000Bet RM100 to win RM350  is not appealing. Henry was excellent against and with a slightly better price in the cricket betting odds at 4.50Bet €100 to win €4507/2Bet £100 to win £450+350Bet $100 to win $4503.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$4503.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp450-0.2857Bet RM100 to win RM450  he is the man to pick.

Winner

Perhaps the most significant market for punters is the winning market. A lot of money will be staked on who triumphs at Lord’s on Sunday and we’ll aim to find the best value. England are favourites to claim the crown for the first time, and their odds with the bookies reflect their recent run of form.

The value does favour New Zealand with their best price coming in at 3.75Bet €100 to win €37511/4Bet £100 to win £375+275Bet $100 to win $3752.75Bet HK$100 to win HK$3752.75Bet Rp100 to win Rp375-0.3636Bet RM100 to win RM375  for the win. The Black Caps failed on the big stage in the 2015 World Cup, losing to the host nation Australia.

England will aim to inflict another final defeat on New Zealand and will be able to get over the line. Back them at the best price of 1.33Bet €100 to win €13333/100Bet £100 to win £133-303Bet $100 to win $1330.33Bet HK$100 to win HK$133-3.03Bet Rp100 to win Rp1330.3300Bet RM100 to win RM133  with the bookies in the cricket betting odds to lift the Cricket World Cup for the first time.
