UFC fighters predict the winner of Daniel Cormier vs. Stipe Miocic at UFC 241

August 9, 2019

Stipe Miocic vs. Junior dos Santos

In July last year, Daniel Cormier moved up to heavyweight to challenge Stipe Miocic for the UFC Heavyweight Championship. At the time, Cormier was the reigning light heavyweight champion of the promotion and a victory over Miocic would earn him his second title.

Making the jump from one division to another in the UFC can be difficult at the best of times, considering that the 15-pound difference translates into stronger, more powerful athletes. The vast difference in knockout power that comes in the higher weight classes means that there’s little room for error – one mistake can lead to a devastating knockout finish.

At UFC 226, many predicted that if anyone was going to end up with their back on the canvas and staring up at the bright lights above them, it would Cormier. After all, he’s the smaller fighter, and he was going up against the longest-reigning UFC heavyweight champion of all-time.

However, what happened during UFC 241 shocked the world.

It was Daniel Cormier who crushed Stipe Miocic in the first round to capture his second UFC Championship.

Now, the two are set to rematch for the title again. For Miocic, it’s his first fight since being defeated on that night. And for Cormier, he defended the title once already against Derrick Lewis, but now welcomes the rematch with Miocic.

In the lead-up to the rematch at UFC 241, James Lynch from The Score MMA spoke with other high-profile UFC fighters to get their opinion on how Cormier vs. Miocic will go down on August 17.

Here’s what they had to say:

Picking Daniel Cormier

  • Frankie Edgar
  • Colby Covington
  • Eryk Anders
  • Gerald Meerschaert
  • James Vick
  • Josh Emmett
  • Volkan Oezdemir
  • Walt Harris

Frankie Edgar predicts that Daniel Cormier will come out on top at UFC 241 because of how dominant he has been at heavyweight.

Colby Covington shares that belief. He feels like Cormier will get another knockout finish on the basis that he is too well-rounded.

Picking Stipe Miocic

  • Anthony Smith
  • Cory Sandhagen
  • Derek Brunson
  • Ian Heinisch
  • Juan Adams
  • Renato Moicano

Anthony Smith believes that this will be a “totally different fight.” He recalls that Stipe Miocic was rushed into fighting Cormier last time around and believes that he didn’t have the opportunity to heal up before fighting Cormier. Smith is sure that Miocic is better than Cormier at everything but wrestling, and expects Miocic to win the title back.

Cory Sandhagen describes Miocic as “very, very good” and believes people are sleeping on him before UFC 241. He’s picking Miocic.
