The Breakdown

This week, we are targeting a team that is struggling defensively and is conceding a huge amount of goals at the moment. They have conceded the most goals in the league so far (24) and have conceded 2 or more goals in all but 1 league game so far this season.

That team is Southend United.

“At the minute we’re just frustrating ourselves and everybody around us”. This is what their Striker Simon Cox had to say after their 4-3 loss to Shrewsbury in the English Football League 1 this past Tuesday.

They have got goals in them, but individual errors are costing them and this weekend they will be up against an MK Dons side who will be looking to get back to winning ways.

In their last game, The Dons lost against a strong Ipswich Town side who are 2nd in the league table at the moment. The scoreline of 0-1 doesn’t give a true reflection of the game though because the MK Dons created enough chances to score and deserved at least a point.

Before that loss, MK Dons were in great scoring form – scoring 3 away from home against Blackpool and 2 away at rivals AFC Wimbledon. They also beat Southend United 4-1 earlier this season away from home in the League Cup.

This is their best chance to score a few goals and get the 3 points against a side that is yet to win this season. I expect MK Dons to get at least 2 goals and so that is my pick for the Bet of the Weekend.
