Burnley Far Too Big to Beat Fulham in Championship

It was a massive weekend for us in the Championship as we landed an 8/1 treble with Burnley and Ipswich winning and Reading and Fulham covering the over 2.5 goal line. There’s another full set of fixtures on Tuesday night and we’ve got another cracking treble lined up to make more profit.

The title race is going to go to the wire this season and still just four points separate the top four teams in the division. Middlesbrough were briefly top of the league courtesy of their 2-1 win over Wolves in Friday night, but Burnley recorded their fourth win in a row by beating Blackburn to return to the summit on Saturday afternoon. Hull suffered a surprise defeat at Birmingham last Thursday evening, and Brighton were held by the miserly Preston defence on Saturday, but both remain within touching distance of the top two.

Burnley were the headline pick on Saturday and they simply look far too big at the odds to come away with three points from Craven Cottage when they visit Fulham. Meanwhile we’re backing Brighton to come good on the South coast when they face Sheffield Wednesday, and we fancy Cardiff to do the business at home to Leeds after a great little run has put them on the verge of the play-offs.

Fulham v Burnley

The Clarets have won their last four matches in a row, including tricky derby games against Bolton and Blackburn, and they are on course for automatic promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking. They currently lead Middlesbrough by a point and 8 wins in the last 10 league games is title-winning form. They haven’t lost a league game since before Christmas, and their only defeat in 2016 was the FA Cup loss at Arsenal. They’ve won 3 and drawn 2 of the last 5 Championship away games, and should have far too much quality for a leaky Fulham defence.

We’ve backed Fulham to go over 2.5 goals several times this season, and they’re the team that just keep on giving. They’re now the second highest scorers in the whole division, but also have the second worst defensive record with 58 goals conceded. They’re five points clear of the drop zone, and they’ll need to start picking up points quickly to ensure survival. However, with just three wins in the last twenty games there’s precious little for Fulham fans to get excited about. They’ve been beaten in three of their last five home matches, and in Burnley they’re facing one of the league’s best sides. Brighton v Sheffield Wednesday

The Owls have been hanging on to 6th place in the league as they aim for a play-off spot, but a run of four games without a win has brought them back to the chasing trio of Ipswich, Cardiff and Birmingham who are all within a single point. They’ve suffered defeats at the hands of Rotherham and Preston recently and it’s a long way to travel all the way down to Brighton on Tuesday night. Away from home they’ve only won twice in ten, and form has deserted them at just the wrong time.

Brighton meanwhile are well and truly over their mid-season blip and are back in title contention in 4th place with four points to make up on Burnley at the top. They’ve now won six of the last nine games, including four in a row at home and are a very tough side to beat in front of their own fans. Overall they’ve won 12 of 17 home matches, and Bolton, Leeds, Brentford and Huddersfield have all walked away empty-handed in recent weeks. They’re also firing on all cylinders having scored four goals in three of the last four games, and they can be expected to come out and attack the Owls from the off.

Cardiff v Leeds

The Bluebirds have had a tough time of things over the last few seasons with relegation from the Premier League, ownership issues, and changes to the colour of the kit to contend with, but things are finally starting to look up for the faithful, and they find themselves level on points with Sheffield Wednesday and only outside the play-off positions on goal difference. Three wins in the last four games – over Brighton, Preston and Bristol City – have been the catalyst and they’ve only lost two league games in 2016, to Hull and Middlesbrough. You have to go back as far as September 2015 for their last league defeat at home, and they are a solid proposition in front of their own crowd. They’ve also beaten Leeds on three of their last four visits here.

Leeds are by no means out of the woods as far as ownership and financial issues go, and the fans staged a mock funeral for their club outside the ground before the game against Bolton over the weekend, as well as flying banners over the stadium asking Massimo Cellino to leave the club. They managed to beat Bolton on the day – their first win in five – but away from home they have little to shout about. They’ve lost four of the last five Championship games on the road, and with their poor record here and the ongoing dramas they are easy to oppose with a Cardiff side that appears to be getting its act together.
