Mystical Spirit to Double up at Chelmsford

March 31, 2016

Mystical Spirit is good value to bring up the double at Chelmsford.

6.40 Chelmsford – Eljaddaaf

Dean Ivory is a shrewd trainer, and can often get his runners to rack up a sequence of victories once they have got the mark. Eljaddaaf fits that bill, and is on for a hat trick on Thursday at Chelmsford.  The 5 year old Shamrdal gelding won despite everything pretty much going wrong long last time out and off a mark of 66 he can follow up.

Eljaddaaf didn’t cut much ice when running in maidens, but that came as no surprise as he was running over a mile, which clearly didn’t suit. Was dropped back in trip for handicap debut and finished second off a mark of 57 over today’s course and distance, suggesting that there could be plenty more to come now the horse had been dropped to sprinting trips. As a result of that good run at Chelmsford, the horse went off a warm order for a handicap at Wolverhampton and duly obliged. Went to double up last time out at Kempton and had to overcome adversity to win. Was dropped in from a wide draw and then had to challenge very wide. Was checked by a rival, but then unleashed a withering run down the outside to score.  Won by less than a length, but with a clear run, he would have scored by much further.

Eljaddaaf is likely to be ridden from the rear again, but Chelmsford is a fair track and he should get a run through. Could be an 80 horse in time, and rates value at 2.38

7.40 Chelmsford – Mystical Spirit

Mystical Spirit put in a gritty performance last time out when winning over 8 furlongs at Chelmsford, and the form of that race looks very solid. Judging by the way he finished his race last time out, the step up in trip should suit, and the fact that Ryan Moore is in town, means that market rival Dark Red is likely to go off favourite. This makes our selection a value bet.

It took Mystical Spirit some time to master the enterprisingly ridden Loyalty last time out, and the front pair pulled clear. There was plenty of market support for Martyn Meade’s runner that day and he is unexposed, so there could be more improvement left in the horse. He is a big framed 4 year old who is just filling out his frame.
