Both Teams to Score in Second Leg of Klopp Derby

April 11, 2016

The first leg of this UEFA Europa League quarter final ended 1-1 in Dortmund.

Round two of the Jurgen Klopp derby will occur at Anfield on Thursday and one thinks that there is a strong argument for backing both Liverpool and Dortmund to score in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League quarter-final tie.

Both teams have scored in each of Liverpool’s five matches across all competitions, including last week’s UEFA Europa League game between Dortmund and the Reds in Germany that ended 1-1. Also, the statistic applies to Dortmund, which travels to England after a 2-2 German Bundesliga draw at Schalke, the domestic side that BVB dislikes most of all.

Liverpool has played 40 games since Klopp succeeded Brendan Rodgers as Reds manager and both teams have scored in half of them, which is not an earth-shattering strike rate when one is looking at an odds-on bet. However, Dortmund’s data is much more compelling. Both sides have scored in 27 of Dortmund’s 48 matches, including 15 of its 25 away games.

What prompts one to nominate 888Sport and Unibet‘s odds of 1.65Bet €100 to win €16513/20Bet £100 to win £165-154Bet $100 to win $1650.65Bet HK$100 to win HK$165-1.54Bet Rp100 to win Rp1650.6500Bet RM100 to win RM165  about both Liverpool and Dortmund to score in their UEFA Europa League clash as being the best wager on Thursday’s program is the state of the tie. Dortmund must score to have any chance of qualifying for the UEFA Europa League semi-finals and, since BVB are the visitors and the favourites, one expects that the match will be open with both sides on the offensive.

A more straightforward pick is Sevilla to defeat Athletic in Thursday’s UEFA Europa League quarter-final second leg that is an all-Spanish Primera Division affair. Odds of 2.00Bet €100 to win €2001/1Bet £100 to win £200+100Bet $100 to win $2001.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$2001.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp2001.0000Bet RM100 to win RM200  with several bookmakers, including BetVictor, William Hill and Unibet, are too big to ignore given Sevilla’s strong home numbers.

Sevilla had won 17 consecutive home games – 13 of them to nil – across all tournaments before succumbing to a shock 1-2 Spanish Primera Division home loss to Sociedad a week and a bit ago. One of Sevilla’s 17 home victories on the spin was a 2-0 Spanish Primera Division defeat of Athletic in January in which Kevin Gameiro helped himself to a brace.

According to one’s Spanish Primera Division collateral form analysis, Sevilla trails Athletic 8-9-2 but both teams are home bodies and, consequently, one is inclined to turn a blind eye to that data. Athletic is sixth on the Spanish Primera Division ladder – three points above Sevilla – but the Lions have lost their four away matches to the league’s top four by an aggregate score of 4-15 and they have won only one of their 12 top-flight games versus sides ranked higher than 10th. Athletic has earned its Spanish Primera Division position by beating up on the league’s weaklings, whereas Sevilla has defeated the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Villarreal. Sevilla is a fair bet to take down Athletic for the third time in three meetings this season.

Finally, one is tipping Shakhtar Donetsk to go on with the job against its UEFA Europa League opponent, Braga. Last Thursday’s UEFA Europa League quarter-final first leg in Portugal resulted in 2-1 away success for Shakhtar in which the visiting team showed its host how to convert chances.

Shakhtar’s 2-1 UEFA Europa League lead means that Braga must score at least two goals in normal time in Ukraine to remain in the competition and that appears unlikely. Braga’s away record in the Portugese Primeira Liga is 5-5-5 but it has failed to win any of its six road matches versus sides in the top eight, including losing 1-5 at Benfica and 2-3 at Sporting. Braga’s shot at reaching the UEFA Europa League last four disappeared once it lost at home to Shakhtar.

Many bookmakers, including BetVictor, SkyBet and Totesport, are quoting Shakhtar at odds of 1.73Bet €100 to win €17373/100Bet £100 to win £173-137Bet $100 to win $1730.73Bet HK$100 to win HK$173-1.37Bet Rp100 to win Rp1730.7300Bet RM100 to win RM173  to become the latest half-decent team to inflict an away defeat on Braga.
