Table Toppers to Draw in Championship Clash

April 18, 2016

Middlesbrough and Burnley are both on course for promotion.

The Championship brings us a full fixture list to get stuck into on Tuesday night, and after 10 winners from the last 11 bets we’re hoping for more of the same. It was Rotherham who let the side down on the weekend, failing to capitalise on a host of chances at home to Nottingham Forest and drawing 0-0. On Tuesday night though we’re concentrating on the top end of the table with several key matches taking place.

There’s none bigger than the 1st v 2nd clash at Turf Moor when Middlesbrough visit Burnley, and with the former leading the latter by just two points, it’s all to play for. Brighton meanwhile will have a close eye on that result as they try to catch the top two, and they face another home game against QPR after battering Fulham 5-0 last Friday night. The battle for a play off place is also hotting up, and Sheffield Wednesday are at home to almost-relegated MK Dons as they look to consolidate a position in the top six.

Burnley v Middlesbrough

There’s only one place to start and that’s the epic title clash between Middlesbrough and Burnley where the smart money looks to be on the draw at 3.25Bet €100 to win €3259/4Bet £100 to win £325+225Bet $100 to win $3252.25Bet HK$100 to win HK$3252.25Bet Rp100 to win Rp325-0.4444Bet RM100 to win RM325  with SkyBetBet365 and BetVictor.

Boro are currently top of the table with 85 points, while Burnley are in 2nd place with 83. Both have four games to play but with Brighton breathing down their collars with 80 points, there’s little margin for error in the battle for the two automatic promotion spots. A win for Middlesbrough would see them go five points clear and surely cement one of those places, but a win for Burnley would see them leapfrog their opponent to go a point ahead at the top.

Burnley have been in superb form since the turn of the year and they haven’t lost a league game since the 3-0 reverse at Hull on Boxing Day. You have to go back to the 5th of December for their last home defeat at the hands of Preston, and they will fancy their chances in this one after winning the last two against Birmingham and Leeds. It was a late winner from Championship player of the year Andre Gray that put them 2-1 up at Birmingham on the weekend, and Boro will have to keep a close eye on the Clarets’ top scorer.

Middlesbrough have won the last six games on the trot, timing their run to the top of the league to perfection, although they needed an even later goal to secure a 2-1 win at Bolton on Saturday – Jordan Rhodes popping up with his second of the game deep into injury time. Those six wins came off the back of consecutive defeats to Rotherham and Charlton, but they’ve been utterly impressive since then.

Middlesbrough are well-versed in shutting up shop and making themselves hard to break down, and with so much riding on this game it would be hugely surprising if boss Aitor Karanka took any other tactical route. A point would keep them two ahead of their rival and most importantly keep their fate in their own hands with just three games left after Tuesday night’s encounter. A point wouldn’t necessarily be a bad result for Burnley either as it would almost certainly keep them above Brighton on goal difference, even if the Seagulls win at home to QPR. It will be a tight match at Turf Moor and a stalemate that possibly suits both sides is the value call.

Brighton v QPR

Brighton meanwhile can do nothing other than win their matches and hope the top two slip up somewhere, and the fact that they play each other means that Chris Hughton’s men are sure to make up ground one way or the other if they can beat QPR at home.

The Seagulls are an attractive price at 1.57Bet €100 to win €15757/100Bet £100 to win £157-175Bet $100 to win $1570.57Bet HK$100 to win HK$157-1.75Bet Rp100 to win Rp1570.5700Bet RM100 to win RM157  with Betfred and Totesport

QPR are 11th in the table but too far away from the play off places to have any hopes of promotion this season. Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink has steadied the ship since he took over earlier in the season, but they have fallen short of being competitive at the top end of the table and results have been inconsistent to say the least. the 0-0 draw at Cardiff on Saturday means they’ve won just once in five, and just once in twelve on the road.

Brighton led the table for a long time before Christmas, but fell away in the early part of 2016. However, it’s now 10 games since they tasted defeat (won 7, drawn 3), and they’ve won six of the last eight in front of their own fans. The 5-0 rout of Fulham on Friday night summed up the way they are playing on home soil, and they should have too much for a QPR side that according to Hasselbaink are playing well enough but without any real penetration.

Sheffield Wednesday v MK Dons

Finally Sheffield Wednesday are worth backing at 1.57Bet €100 to win €15757/100Bet £100 to win £157-175Bet $100 to win $1570.57Bet HK$100 to win HK$157-1.75Bet Rp100 to win Rp1570.5700Bet RM100 to win RM157  with Betfred and Totesport to seize three vital points when they welcome MK Dons to Hillsborough.

The Owls haven’t won in the last two after losing 4-1 away at Bristol City and being held to a 1-1 home draw by Ipswich at the weekend, but they still sit five points clear of 7th placed Cardiff and are favourites to claim the last play-off spot. With Cardiff facing a tough trip to Brentford on the night, this presents Wednesday with a perfect opportunity to forge further ahead.

MK Dons could easily be relegated after Tuesday’s games, but it’s been on the cards for a few weeks now. Rotherham’s excellent form coupled with a run of four straight defeats for the Dons leaves them nine points adrift of safety with just four games to play. They halted the losing run with a 1-1 draw at Preston but they had to rely on the hosts missing a late penalty to secure the point. If Rotherham beat Huddersfield it will be curtains for MK Dons even if they win here, but Sheffield Wednesday are a strong side at home and they can hammer the final nail in the coffin.
