Bet Your House on Peter at Beverley Races

June 21, 2016

Peterhouse is back up in trip at Beverley this afternoon.

Tuesday’s are not renowned for providing the best quality of racing, but regardless of ability, when there are horses running against each other, there is the ability for us punters to make money. Peterhouse looks like a good bet at Beverley, and could start shorter than the price that is currently on offer. There may only be 5 runners in the field, but the race could be run to suit Jason Ward’s 4 year old gelding, and the horse has already shown a real liking for the Yorkshire track, with course and distance victories to his name.

Peterhouse is generally a very consistent animal, and the son of Elusive Quality has record 2 wins and 5 places from 13 turf starts. His last effort came just 7 days ago at Beverley, albeit over the slightly shorter trip of 8.5 furlongs. Stayed on strongly that day and was just denied, finishing second, but should be suited by the step back up in trip and has shown that he is in good form.

Mysterial has put in two good runs over course and distance recently, finishing third on penultimate start before getting his head in front last time out. The trailblazer likes to set a very hot pace and offers a ‘catch me if you can’ style of running to his rivals. The only issue this time out is he comes up against Le Deluge, another horse who likes to blast out from the front. There is a very good chance the two runners will take each other on and set the race up for a closer. Peterhouse likes to track the pace and should have the race run to suit. He likes fast ground and the forecast is for a dry, sunny day, so conditions are also likely to be in his favour.

Bet – 1 point win Peterhouse 3.25Bet €100 to win €3259/4Bet £100 to win £325+225Bet $100 to win $3252.25Bet HK$100 to win HK$3252.25Bet Rp100 to win Rp325-0.4444Bet RM100 to win RM325   Coral and Bet365

Lady Amateur Riders’ races are rarely contests where we find solid betting opportunities, but the 5 furlong sprint at Leicester offers a strong bet in the form of the Ron Barr trained Mitchum. Ridden by Mrs V Davies, the 7 year old gelding has enjoyed a revival in recent times, having rattled off a hat trick. Did disappoint when last seen at the track, but that can be forgiven as the ground was far too quick for the son of Elnadim’s liking. At odds of 3.75Bet €100 to win €37511/4Bet £100 to win £375+275Bet $100 to win $3752.75Bet HK$100 to win HK$3752.75Bet Rp100 to win Rp375-0.3636Bet RM100 to win RM375 , he is a very worthy favourite.

The ground at Leicester is heavy, and in all likelihood the majority of runners in the race will not act on the ground. That cannot be said for Mitchum, who is a mud lark. In fact, his best victory came over 5 furlongs on heavy ground at Redcar when destroying his field by 7 lengths. Stays 6 furlongs which is another plus in the ground and is likely to sit close to the pace (typically a good track position to have in testing conditions). Main market rival is Bronze Beau, a 9 year old gelding who has plenty of ability, but is also a bit of a thinker. From 99 starts, Kristin Stubbs’ runner has finished second on 22 occasions, suggesting he is a bit soft when it comes to a battle.

Mitchum has been given nearly 4 weeks off since disappointing on fast ground and back on a slow surface, he really should go very close.
