Hamilton to Close Gap on Rosberg with Home Victory

July 9, 2016

Lewis Hamilton has won the last two renewals of the British Grand Prix.

Silverstone is one of only two tracks at which Mercedes has celebrated grand prix glory three years in a row during its current dominance of Formula One and it is impossible to look beyond the Silver Arrows drivers this weekend.

Nico Rosberg won the 2013 British Grand Prix for Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton took out the 2014 edition for the same team and the Briton went back to back in 2015. Silverstone, which will stage its 50th Formula One race on Sunday, is made for Mercedes because it is a circuit that places a premium on power and the Silver Arrows cars are the most powerful.

The British Grand Prix is a home race for many Formula One outfits because their bases are close to Silverstone so it unfortunate that the English track’s composition should result in a fourth win in a row for the Silver Arrows.

In 2013, Hamilton qualified fastest for the British Grand Prix and only Rosberg got within 0.6 seconds of the Briton in the third qualifying session. Hamilton led the race until the seventh lap when the left-rear tyre of his Mercedes blew apart and he dropped to last place as he trundled back to the pits. Hamilton drove extremely strongly to finish the race in fourth position, while Rosberg took the chequered flag first ahead of Mark Webber and Fernando Alonso.

In 2014, the British Grand Prix’s third qualifying session was a farce. Hamilton pulled into the pits towards the end of his final lap because he thought that the last sector’s surface was too wet for him to improve his time. Hamilton, however, made a massive mistake because the final sector’s surface had dried considerably and he ended up starting the British Grand Prix from sixth spot. Hamilton made amends in the race, capitalising on Rosberg’s 28th-lap gearbox-related retirement to beat Valtteri Bottas home by 30.135 seconds.

In 2015, Hamilton got it right in both British Grand Prix qualifying and, eventually, the next day’s race. Hamilton pipped Rosberg to the British Grand Prix pole position by 0.113 seconds and none of their rivals got within 0.7 seconds of them. Hamilton and Rosberg bombed the start of the British Grand Prix but the former undercut Felipe Massa, Bottas and Rosberg on lap 20, emerging from the series of pit stops as the race leader and never looking back.

Hamilton has overcome difficulties to win each of the last two British Grand Prix renewals, he has the benefit of the car that is best suited to Silverstone and he thrives off the love that the local crowd shows him. Moreover, Hamilton seems to have got back into the head of Rosberg and that is good news for the Briton and bad news for the German.

Friday’s British Grand Prix practice sessions did nothing to put one off Hamilton, who topped the time charts as Rosberg had to sit out the second 90-minute period. Ladbrokes is listing odds of 1.73Bet €100 to win €17373/100Bet £100 to win £173-137Bet $100 to win $1730.73Bet HK$100 to win HK$173-1.37Bet Rp100 to win Rp1730.7300Bet RM100 to win RM173  about Hamilton winning Sunday’s British Grand Prix, odds that equates to a 57.80 per cent chance. One thinks that, in the circumstances, 57.80% underestimates Hamilton’s chance of winning the British Grand Prix for the third consecutive year and the fourth time in his career.

Greedy punters who want to increase their potential return can snap up odds of 2.00Bet €100 to win €2001/1Bet £100 to win £200+100Bet $100 to win $2001.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$2001.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp2001.0000Bet RM100 to win RM200  with Bet365 that Hamilton does the British Grand Prix double of pole position and race success. Sometimes there is nothing wrong with ignoring the obvious and a Hamilton pole-win double appears more likely than not.
