Trott to Trump Murray and Farah in Sports Personality

August 24, 2016

Laura Trott is the value pick for BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

Andy Murray is a false favourite to take out the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award for the third time following the efforts of several other Olympic Games gold medallists.

No-one has won three renewals of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award and, after Great Britain representatives won 27 gold medals in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, one does want a bar of Murray at odds not much greater than even money despite him being one of his country’s champions.

One is not keen on BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award second favourite Mo Farah, either. Farah ought to be one of his nation’s most loved sportspersons because of his great wins over 5,000 metres and 10,000 metres in back-to-back Olympic Games – he had to recover from a mid-race fall to claim gold over 25 laps in Rio – but his association with Alberto Salazar means that he is not liked universally.

Never in the 2000s has anyone other than an Olympic Games gold medallist won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award in the 12-month period associated with a summer edition, with Steve Redgrave (2000), Kelly Holmes (2004), Chris Hoy (2008) and Bradley Wiggins (2012) doing the Olympic Games-BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award double recently. According to bookmakers, Real Madrid and Wales footballer Gareth Bale is the only serious BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award without an Olympic Games title to his name and one is willing to bet against the forward, who won the UEFA Champions League with his club and helped his country to qualify for the UEFA Euro 2016 semi-finals.

BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award third favourite Laura Trott is one’s idea of the value pick following the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Trott is available at odds of 7.50Bet €100 to win €75013/2Bet £100 to win £750+650Bet $100 to win $7506.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$7506.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp750-0.1538Bet RM100 to win RM750  with many bookmakers, including Marathonbet and Betfair, to become the first woman since Queen Elizabeth II’s granddaughter, 2006 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award winner Zara Phillips, to receive the prize.

Trott is Great Britain’s most successful Olympic Games female competitor having won the women’s omnium and the women’s team pursuit in London in 2012 and Rio in 2016. Trott’s record-breaking achievements in the velodrome are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the case for backing her to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award. Trott’s persona made her stand out from the crowd during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and then there is her relationship with another gold medallist, Jason Kenny.

One is not a regular reader of gossip magazines but one has flicked through them and found out that Trott is likely to tie the knot with Kenny before 2016 is over. A combination of Trott’s brilliance on her bicycle and photographs of her wedding would make her mighty difficult to beat in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award race, which is run and won via a public telephone vote on Sunday 18 December.
