Bank on Goals When Blackburn Host Fulham at Ewood

August 25, 2016

Blackburn and Fulham have just one clean sheet between them this season.

After the majority of Championship sides turned out in the EFL Cup in midweek, it’s back to the hurly burly of the Championship at the weekend. There’s a number of tough fixtures to contend with on this week’s coupon, and the three bets that stand out all concern goals rather than results.

With four games gone in the long Championship season the table is young, but it’s beginning to take shape. The surprise of the season so far has been Huddersfield who have gained 10 points from four games to lead the fledgling league ladder. Brighton, Norwich, Wolves and Fulham have all had unbeaten starts and sit not far behind on 8 points, while QPR and Newcastle come next with 6 points each.

Down at the bottom, Blackburn, Preston and Rotherham fill the three relegation places and it looks like a long season ahead for each of those clubs. The former and the latter are included in our bets this week, as Blackburn host Fulham and Rotherham make the trip to Barnsley for a Yorkshire derby.

Blackburn v Fulham

Over 2-5 goals is 2.00Bet €100 to win €2001/1Bet £100 to win £200+100Bet $100 to win $2001.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$2001.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp2001.0000Bet RM100 to win RM200  with Marathonbet and Paddy Power and that looks a cracking bet considering the two teams have kept just a single clean sheet between them this season.

Both sides went to extra-time in their respective EFL Cup matches in midweek, and they have a habit of featuring in high-scoring games. Blackburn were held to a 3-3 draw by Crewe on Tuesday night, eventually getting through 4-3 with a Shane Duffy extra-time goal – fair consolation for the player who netted three own goals in two games earlier in the season. Fulham came from behind to draw 1-1 with Premier League Middlesbrough, before claiming their scalp with an extra-time winner.

Rovers lost their first three league games of the season to get off to the worst possible start, so the 2-2 draw with Burton and the Cup victory over Crewe will have helped to stop the rot. However, they are yet to keep a clean sheet and their six competitive games this season have yielded 25 goals.

Fulham kept their only clean sheet of the season in the opening 1-0 victory over Newcastle, but they’ve had no shut outs since then. Their six league and cup games this season have seen 17 goals, at a rate of just over three per game.

Priorities will be markedly different approaching this game as Fulham look to consolidate their top six position and Blackburn attempt to climb out of the relegation zone. It’s likely to be an open game and both teams will fancy their chances of snatching the three points.

Wigan v QPR

Betfair and Coral go 2.20Bet €100 to win €2206/5Bet £100 to win £220+120Bet $100 to win $2201.20Bet HK$100 to win HK$2201.20Bet Rp100 to win Rp220-0.8333Bet RM100 to win RM220  about over 2.5 goals in this one, and it’s a tempting price.

It wasn’t so long ago that both of these sides were competing in the Premier League, but QPR showed little in the way of a promotion challenge last term, while Wigan have only just returned from a spell in League One. Both teams have already featured in high-scoring games this season, and this could easily be another one.

QPR had a great start to the season with back-to-back wins over Leeds and Cardiff, but they’ve since lost two to Barnsley and Preston. They still occupy 6th place courtesy of those opening six points, but will need to get back on track if they are to push for promotion. Six games in league and cup so far have yielded 17 goals.

Wigan are 17th in the table after two defeats, one win and one draw, and this season is more likely to be about Championship survival than promotion. Their five games so far this season have seen 18 goals, and they’ve kept just the one clean sheet in the 3-0 victory over Blackburn.

Barnsley v Rotherham

You can get 2.00Bet €100 to win €2001/1Bet £100 to win £200+100Bet $100 to win $2001.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$2001.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp2001.0000Bet RM100 to win RM200  with 888Sport and Unibet on Barnsley and Rotherham combining for three or more goals, and that looks more than fair.

Both of these sides were knocked out of the EFL Cup by lower league opposition in round one. Barnsley went down to an extra-time Northampton goal after a 1-1 draw, while Rotherham lost 5-4 in extra-time to Morecambe after a 3-3 draw in 90 minutes.

Both teams have just one clean sheet in their respective five matches this term. Rotherham beat Brentford 1-0 last time out to claim their first win of the season, while Barnsley beat Derby 2-0 a couple of weeks back. Overall, Barnsley’s five games have seen 18 goals, and Rotherham have combined with the opposition to produce 17 goals in their five matches.

A Yorkshire derby is always bound to have a bit of extra spice, and there’s every chance that this one sees plenty of goalmouth action.
