Hammers to Win a London Derby Low in Corners

September 8, 2016

West Ham beat Watford 3-1 in last season's corresponding fixture.

Betting on matches in a league full of foreign players right after an international break is fraught with danger so it makes sense to keep English Premier League stakes to a minimum following the FIFA World Cup qualifying round.

The most attractive English Premier League match from a punting perspective is Saturday’s game between West Ham and Watford at London Stadium, the arena that was the main one during the London 2012 Olympic Games. Two particular wagers appeal – West Ham to beat Watford and the English Premier League match to go under 10 and a half corner kicks.

West Ham’s most influential player, Dimitri Payet, is back at training and Hammers boss Slaven Bilic is making all the right noises about the France midfielder starting against Watford. Payet’s absence through injury has coincided with West Ham exiting the UEFA Europa League before its group stage and the Hammers losing two of their first three English Premier League games, albeit at a couple of the championship favourites, Chelsea and Manchester City.

One suspects that West Ham is falsely positioned at 12th on the English Premier League ladder but that 18th-ranked Watford is far off where it will end up. Watford kicked off its English Premier League campaign with a 1-1 draw at Southampton but the Hornets have lost back-to-back home matches to Chelsea and Arsenal. On an English Premier League collateral form line through Chelsea, Watford is one goal inferior to West Ham and the Hornets have to play the Hammers in their relatively new backyard this weekend.

Coral and Marathonbet are offering odds of 1.91Bet €100 to win €19191/100Bet £100 to win £191-110Bet $100 to win $1910.91Bet HK$100 to win HK$191-1.10Bet Rp100 to win Rp1910.9100Bet RM100 to win RM191  about West Ham winning its English Premier League home game versus Watford. That is well worth a bet and so, too, is under 10 and a half corner kicks at odds of 1.83Bet €100 to win €18383/100Bet £100 to win £183-120Bet $100 to win $1830.83Bet HK$100 to win HK$183-1.20Bet Rp100 to win Rp1830.8300Bet RM100 to win RM183  with Bet365.

Neither West Ham nor Watford has taken more than six corner kicks in the English Premier League this season and their divisional matches are averaging eight and six corners respectively. Other positive pointers are the corner-kick counts in last term’s English Premier League games between West Ham and Watford. There were nine corner kicks when Watford defeated West Ham 2-0 in English Premier League action at Vicarage Road 10 months ago and there was six corners when the Hammers beat the Hornets 3-1 at the Boleyn Ground six months later. BetVictor is trying to duck one’s suggested English Premier League corner-kick wager and Bet365 may not be able to hold its odds for very long.

Finally, one picks Chelsea to keep its 100 per cent English Premier League record by beating Swansea at the Liberty Stadium, an option that is available at odds of 1.67 with many bookmakers, including Betfred, BoyleSports and Coral.

Both Chelsea and Swansea have faced Burnley in the English Premier League this season and, based on one’s collateral form analysis, the Blues are one goal better than the Swans, which is sufficient for the Londoners to be favourites over their hosts. Furthermore, Swansea has lost each of its last two English Premier League matches, including an especially disappointing 0-2 home reverse when Hull came to Wales.

Chelsea has not hit top gear yet but the signs are that the Blues will get there under their new manager, Antonio Conte. Swansea has an Italian coach also but Francesco Guidolin’s resume is nowhere near as impressive as that of Conte and already there are rumblings that the Swans boss is under pressure at a club that he joined only in January.
