Bullish About Ricciardo Beating Verstappen in Singapore

September 17, 2016

The Singapore Grand Prix is one of the most unpredictable races on the circuit.

Daniel Ricciardo is Formula One’s quiet achiever who is well worth backing to win his intrateam Singapore Grand Prix battle against Max Verstappen in Sunday’s night race.

Ricciardo does not seek the limelight either on or off the Formula One circuit, which means that his achievements do not generate as many headlines as those of his opponents. That, however, is good news for Formula One punters whose mission is to secure excellent betting value this weekend.

The Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore is one on which Ricciardo has shone previously. Ricciardo has competed in five Singapore Grand Prix editions, outperforming his then colleague in four of them and the exception being when he retired from the 2013 race as a consequence of a 23rd-lap accident. Verstappen has taken part in just one Singapore Grand Prix and, while he defeated fellow Toro Rosso driver Carlos Sainz, a measly 1.410 seconds separated them.

Various bookmakers are offering odds of 1.73Bet €100 to win €17373/100Bet £100 to win £173-137Bet $100 to win $1730.73Bet HK$100 to win HK$173-1.37Bet Rp100 to win Rp1730.7300Bet RM100 to win RM173  about Ricciardo beating his Red Bull colleague, Verstappen, in the Singapore Grand Prix. Verstappen is a human headline because of his conduct during grands prix and media conferences – he races right on the edge and his conversations with his engineers contain gems – whereas Ricciardo goes about his business quietly. Verstappen joined Red Bull ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix and the teenager took the chequered flag in Barcelona first, assisted greatly by the early collision of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg that forced out both Mercedes drivers. Verstappen, though, has played second fiddle to Ricciardo six times out of 10 since they became Red Bull teammates, including significantly in each of their last four scraps.

The Monaco Grand Prix has a lot in common with the Singapore Grand Prix so one thinks that it is relevant that Ricciardo was the star of that European race even though he did not get to stand on the top of the podium in the principality. Ricciardo was heading for Monaco Grand Prix victory until a bad pit stop resulted in him dropping from first to second.

The Singapore Grand Prix is one of the most unpredictable races on the Formula One calendar so one recommends keeping stakes to relatively low levels. The Singapore Grand Prix is all about strategy and there is always an element of chance because it is almost inevitable that the safety car will make an appearance. Indeed, every one of the eight editions of the Singapore Grand Prix has featured a safety car period lasting at least four laps. Accidents happens in Singapore.

SkyBet is offering odds of 4.00Bet €100 to win €4003/1Bet £100 to win £400+300Bet $100 to win $4003.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$4003.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp400-0.3333Bet RM100 to win RM400 about Ricciardo winning the Singapore Grand Prix. The Marina Bay Street Circuit lends itself to the Red Bull cars but one is not expecting the Mercedes vehicles of Hamilton and Rosberg to perform as poorly in this year’s Singapore Grand Prix as they did 12 months ago. Everything that could go wrong went wrong for Mercedes in last year’s Singapore Grand Prix – the Silver Arrows started the race from the third row on the grid, Hamilton retired on lap 32 and Rosberg finished fourth.

Ricciardo is one’s idea of the best bet in the Singapore Grand Prix winner market.
