Magpies to Swoop For Three More Points at Rotherham

September 29, 2016

Newcastle score twice in injury time to beat Norwich 4-3.

A thrilling midweek Championship fixture list saw two of last year’s Premier League sides go head-to-head, and Newcastle and Norwich didn’t disappoint. The Canaries looked on course for a brilliant away win as they led 3-2 with minutes remaining, but Gouffran and Gayle had different ideas. Two goals deep into injury time turned the game on its head and Newcastle ran out 4-3 winners of a quite remarkable match.

As we predicted, Huddersfield bounced back from a defeat at Reading to beat Rotherham 2-1 at home and maintain their lead at the top of the table. Norwich remain 2nd despite the loss, and Newcastle moved back up to third position just a point behind the Canaries and three behind the Terriers. Rafa Benitez will be delighted by the character his team showed to snatch the win, and they have a good opportunity to follow up when they travel to rock-bottom Rotherham on Saturday.

It’s been over a year since Aston Villa last won an away game – a 1-0 success at Bournemouth on the 8th of August 2015 – so they look a little short at the prices when they visit a Preston side which is battling for every Championship point. The Lilywhites are unbeaten in three, including away games at Bournemouth (EFL Cup) and Birmingham.

The other of our tips is an over 2,5 goal bet on two teams that feature in high-scoring games more often than not – Bristol City and Nottingham Forest. The Robins are riding high in the play off places, but Forest are struggling after a run of five without a win. Both are among the division’s top scorers, while Forest have conceded more than anyone except last-placed Rotherham.

Rotherham v Newcastle

First up, the Magpies are 1.57Bet €100 to win €15757/100Bet £100 to win £157-175Bet $100 to win $1570.57Bet HK$100 to win HK$157-1.75Bet Rp100 to win Rp1570.5700Bet RM100 to win RM157  with SkyBet and Coral to take three points from a Rotherham side who are well and truly in the doldrums.

The gulf in class between two teams in the same division will rarely be bigger than the gap between these two, and Newcastle should make their superiority count. Rotherham have managed just a single win all season, and are on a run of three straight defeats to Huddersfield, Cardiff and Blackburn. They have been relegated to last position in the Championship table, with a meagre six points from ten games. That’s relegation form, and they might well have gone down last year were it not for a Neil Warnock-inspired run in. They earned a stay of execution for another year, but the writing is already on the wall.

Newcastle will be aiming to travel in the opposite direction, and after the level of summer investment under Rafa Benitez, anything less would be a huge disappointment. It also looks like the fans are going to get their money’s worth with a roller-coaster of a season. The Magpies have already followed up a 6-0 win at QPR with a 2-0 home loss to Wolves, and it was all doom and gloom when they trailed Norwich 3-1 on Wednesday night. A storming comeback was secured in the 95th and 96th minutes, and should have kept everyone on the edge of their seats until the final whistle. They’ve won three out of five away games in the league so far, and have conceded just two goals in those five games. Rotherham is a tough ground to go to, but if fully wound up, Newcastle should be too good.

Preston v Aston Villa

Preston are 1.75Bet €100 to win €1753/4Bet £100 to win £175-133Bet $100 to win $1750.75Bet HK$100 to win HK$175-1.33Bet Rp100 to win Rp1750.7500Bet RM100 to win RM175  with Bet365 to get at least a draw at home to Villa, and that looks a very good bet considering the Villains poor away record.

The jokes doing the rounds about what has happened since Villa’s last away win will be hard to hear for their long-suffering fans, but it’s over 400 days since they tasted victory on the road. They’ve lost three and drawn three of their six competitive away matches this term, and it’s a brave man who backs them to get three points on Saturday. Roberto Di Matteo has the reins at the moment, but it’s a long six weeks since their only Championship win of the season at home to Rotherham on the 13th of August. Winnall’s late equaliser for Barnsley condemned them to their fifth straight draw, and they are languishing in 17th place with just 10 points.

Preston are hardly prolific – they’ve lost six of their 10 matches so far this season – but they’re unbeaten in three games since grabbing an extra-time win in the EFL Cup at Bournemouth. A 1-0 win over Wigan at home and a 2-2 draw away at Birmingham have followed, and they’re level on ten points with Villa at the moment.

Bristol City v Nottingham Forest

Finally, Over 2.5 goals is a great bet at 1.85Bet €100 to win €18517/20Bet £100 to win £185-118Bet $100 to win $1850.85Bet HK$100 to win HK$185-1.18Bet Rp100 to win Rp1850.8500Bet RM100 to win RM185  with Marathonbet when City host Forest.

It’s been a season that is surpassing expectations for the Robins so far, and they reside in the heady heights of 6th place. Premier League football is probably beyond them, but their fans will be rightly dreaming about a promotion push after some excellent early results. They’ve won the last three games, but more importantly for our bets, five of the last seven have had three or more goals.

Forest are among the top scoring and conceding sides in the division, with their 10 games yielding 18 for and 20 against. They’re in the opposite form to City – currently on a run of six without a win – but eight of their last nine games have exceeded the 2.5 goal line.
