May Rose to Aid Crowley’s Title Challenge

September 30, 2016

Jim Crowley is closing in on the Jockey's title.

5.20 Newcastle – The Resdev Way

Horses that have scored just once in thirteen runs aren’t always our go to for selections, as they can often have a few quirks. However, after looking through the form of the 3 year old The Resdev Way, he appears to be a young horse on the up, and unsurprisingly, he has improved since switching to the all-weather.  Richard Whitaker turns the son of Multiplex out just 7 days after his second placed finish over course and distance, and although this field has some last time out winners in, they do not look anything out of the ordinary.

There was very little to write home about in The Resdev Way’s first eight starts, with the horse finishing placed on just one occasion. He then switched to the all-weather at Wolverhampton back in July on his ninth outing, and showed much more zest. Ran over 7 furlongs that day, and finished with a rattle, implying that a step up in trip would prove beneficial to his chances of entering the winner’s enclosure. Was surprisingly returned back to turf for following two starts over 6 and 7 furlongs, and showed little.  The big improvement with Whitaker’s horse came when the trainer stepped his runner up to 12 furlongs and returned him to the all-weather. Racing at Newcastle for the first time, the horse loved the extra yardage and the artificial surface, and won by a comfortable 2 ¼ lengths.

The victory may not have come as a surprise to those who follow sire stats, as Multiplex’s offspring tend to do much better on the all-weather than turf, and they perform best at middle distances. The Resdev Way tried to follow up that victory over course and distance last week, and went down by a narrow margin. Pulled a little hard that day, but did draw clear with the eventual winner that day and will have some of the freshness knocked out of him with that run.

Barry McHugh is a solid pilot and it would come as no shock if The Resdev Way started at 3.00Bet €100 to win €3002/1Bet £100 to win £300+200Bet $100 to win $3002.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$3002.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp300-0.5000Bet RM100 to win RM300 , so 3.75Bet €100 to win €37511/4Bet £100 to win £375+275Bet $100 to win $3752.75Bet HK$100 to win HK$3752.75Bet Rp100 to win Rp375-0.3636Bet RM100 to win RM375  represents a good price.

8:20 Newcastle – May Rose

Jim Crowley is in search of his first jockey’s title, and with it so close, he will be putting everything into each ride he has. Crowley has obtained a good book of rides at Newcastle on Friday and May Rose looks to be one of his best chances. Charlie Hills’ filly was chasing a hat trick last time out, but came undone by the soft ground at Windsor. Back on the all-weather, she can resume her upwards trajectory.

May Rose, a daughter of Lawman, ran three solid races to obtain an average official rating of 66; from there she has progressed plenty. With a second and two wins in her first three handicap starts, Charlie Hills looked to have a progressive filly on his books. Stepped up to Class 4 company last time out, she couldn’t pick up in the ground against better opposition.  Windsor is very sharp and May Rose looked to get a little outpaced. Newcastle, by contrast is straight and galloping and that should very much suit.

Bet – 1 point win May Rose at 5.00Bet €100 to win €5004/1Bet £100 to win £500+400Bet $100 to win $5004.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$5004.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp500-0.2500Bet RM100 to win RM500  with Bet365 and William Hill
