Spurs Against City is Sure to Spell Goals on Sunday

September 30, 2016

Tottenham have won their last two games against Manchester City.

It’s a special Super Sunday this week in the Premier League, with three live televised games and some top teams in action. The pick of the bunch is the mid-afternoon game which sees Tottenham Hotspur play host to Manchester City. They’re currently the top two in the table and a Spurs win could see them close the gap to just one point. A City win on the other hand, would see Pep Guardiola’s men open up a gap of at least five points over their other top four rivals.

Manchester United are one of the chasing pack, back in 6th position, and a win at home to Stoke will push them back into the top four for a few hours at least. The Old Trafford match kicks off at the early time of 12:00, before Spurs, City and Arsenal have played their games. The Gunners will also be in the North West as they take on newly promoted Burnley in the late afternoon game. The Clarets are hovering just above the relegation zone while Arsenal are in third place, but this is just the sort of fixture that has tripped up Arsene Wenger in the past.

Tottenham v Manchester City

Starting with the big one and odds of 1.78Bet €100 to win €17839/50Bet £100 to win £178-128Bet $100 to win $1780.78Bet HK$100 to win HK$178-1.28Bet Rp100 to win Rp1780.7800Bet RM100 to win RM178  with 188Bet about over 2.5 goals make plenty of appeal.

One feature of Pep Guardiola’s tenure as Manchester City manager has been the amount of goals in the Citizen’s matches. The 3-3 draw with Celtic in the Champions League in midweek is perfect evidence of their ability to score and concede at will. Spurs were recording a 1-0 win in Moscow the previous night in their Champions League encounter – a result that brought up a four-game winning streak since their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Monaco.

Spurs have a decent record against Man City, and have won their last two games against them. It was 2-1 when they met at the Etihad in February, courtesy of goals from Kane and Eriksen; while a 4-1 win at White Hart Lane last September gave Spurs an impressive league double. However, this City side is a different proposition to the one they faced last term, and they were sitting on a 100% record this season prior to the draw with Celtic.

Man City have scored 33 goals in their 11 games this season – a very neat average of three strikes per game. They attack any team in any game, such is the Guardiola philosophy, so we can be sure they will take the game to Tottenham on Sunday. Spurs are a tough side at White Hart Lane though, and they are more than capable of hitting a City defence which has looked somewhat suspect this season.

Four of the last five meetings have exceeded the over 2.5 goal line, and this one should go the same way.

Manchester United v Stoke

United to win to nil is a tempting bet at 2.25Bet €100 to win €2255/4Bet £100 to win £225+125Bet $100 to win $2251.25Bet HK$100 to win HK$2251.25Bet Rp100 to win Rp225-0.8000Bet RM100 to win RM225  with BetVictor and Coral when they host Stoke at Old Trafford in the lunchtime kick off.

Jose Mourinho has had an excellent home record at every club he’s managed, and most of his success has been built on discipline and organisation. His team’s failure to keep clean sheets this season will be a concern, but they have won three of four home games and kept clean sheets in two of them. The first failure to keep a shut out was in the 2-1 defeat to Man City, and the second required a world class strike from Leicester’s Gray in the Foxes 4-1 defeat. Southampton and Zorya (Europa League) have both failed to score here, and Stoke do not look like a side to cause an upset.

A lot was expected of Mark Hughes’ team after some shrewd-looking transfer business in the summer, but nothing has gone right for the Potters this season. They’re second-bottom of the table with 2 points, and are yet to register a Premier League win so far. They’ve also conceded four goals three times in six league games, at the hands of Man City, Crystal Palace and Spurs. A 1-0 win was snatched from their grasp last time out by Rondon’s late equaliser for West Brom, and a trip to Old Trafford is the last thing they need right now.  United scored a 3-0 victory in last year’s corresponding fixture, and a similar result wouldn’t be a huge surprise.

Burnley v Arsenal

You won’t get rich backing Arsenal at 1.40Bet €100 to win €1402/5Bet £100 to win £140-250Bet $100 to win $1400.40Bet HK$100 to win HK$140-2.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp1400.4000Bet RM100 to win RM140  with Bet365Betfred and Paddy Power, but they are surely worth supporting to earn a 5th win in a row.

The Gunners started the season with a shocking 4-3 home defeat to Liverpool, but since drawing 1-1 with PSG in the Champions League, they’ve comfortably beaten Hull, Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Basel in various competitions. Those four games have yielded 13 goals and just 1 against as they’ve kept three clean sheets to boot. The fizz is back among the Arsenal players and when they’re on form, very few teams in the league can live with them.

Burnley earned their second league win of the season last Monday night when they got the better of Watford 2-0; the same scoreline by which they beat Liverpool at Turf Moor earlier in the season. With seven points so far they’re four points and five places above the relegation zone – a position which most Burnley fans would be happy with after the full 38 games. Their season won’t rest on results against the top four, and it would be a surprise if lightening struck twice and they did to Arsenal what they did to Liverpool.
