Bantams to Perform Taming of the Shrews on Saturday

October 8, 2016

Bradford are unbeaten all season in League One.

There’s a huge amount of international action over the course of the weekend, and we’ve pointed out the best of the betting opportunities in the European World Cup qualifiers elsewhere on site. For those punters who likes a Saturday afternoon bet though, the domestic action is thin on the ground. In the absence of Premier League and Championship action in England, we’ve dipped into League One to find three decent Saturday bets to add to the accumulators.

The top two sides in the division – Scunthorpe and Bradford – are both at home with decent chances of keeping up the good form. Bradford in particular, who are protecting an unbeaten record after 11 games in the league, and face relegation-threatened Shrewsbury. Meanwhile, we’re also latching on to a Rochdale side that has put together an impressive run of five straight victories in league and cup.

Bradford v Shrewsbury

First of all it’s Bradford, who are 1.60Bet €100 to win €1603/5Bet £100 to win £160-167Bet $100 to win $1600.60Bet HK$100 to win HK$160-1.67Bet Rp100 to win Rp1600.6000Bet RM100 to win RM160  with Betfred and William Hill to tame the Shrews on Saturday afternoon.

The Bantams sit second in the table with 21 points, three behind leaders Scunthorpe. They’re unbeaten over 90 minutes in 14 league and cup games this season – their only defeat coming after penalties to Accrington in the EFL Cup back in early August. The last three games have resulted in victories over Bury, Chesterfield and Fleetwood, and at home they’ve won four of seven competitive matches, drawing the other three. Home form is very reliable – they’ve only tasted defeat in front of their own fans once since March – and they’re facing a Shrewsbury side that has lost six of its last 9 on the road.

It’s been a poor start to the season for the Shrews, and they’re 22nd in the table with 10 points – two from safety. They’ve posted just two wins from their 11 league games so far, five defeats and four draws. Overall they’ve won just one of the last ten, and it looks like a relegation battle is on the cards. Manger Micky Mellon has left the club by mutual consent to take up the post at National League Tranmere Rovers, despite leading the Shrews to League Two promotion just two seasons ago. Goalkeeping coach Danny Coyne takes the reins for the trip to Bradford, but he has already ruled himself out of the running by saying he’s not cut out for management.

The Shrews are best avoided until they appoint a new boss, and Bradford rate as one of the weekend’s best ‘home bankers’.

Scunthorpe v Northampton

League leaders Scunthorpe face a much trickier match at home to Northampton, but are worthy of support at 1.84Bet €100 to win €18421/25Bet £100 to win £184-119Bet $100 to win $1840.84Bet HK$100 to win HK$184-1.19Bet Rp100 to win Rp1840.8400Bet RM100 to win RM184  with Marathonbet.

The Cobblers won a remarkable promotion from League Two last season, and they’re making a great fist of things in League One so far. Back in November 2015, debts of some £10 million threatened to force the club into administration, but a subsequent takeover and upturn in form on the pitch led to the unlikely step up to League One. 11 games this season have yielded 4 wins, 5 draws and just 2 defeats, and they sit proudly in 5th place in the table with a promotion challenge not out of the question. That good form shouldn’t mask their away form though, which is a little less impressive. They’ve found one victory on the road at Swindon, but have drawn three and lost two of their other road games in the league.

Scunthorpe beat third-placed Bury away from home in their last league game, while a Checkatrade Trophy win over Shrewsbury in midweek brought up a run of six wins and two draws in eight games. They’ve only been beaten once this season in the league – a 3-1 loss at Port Vale back in August – and they’re flying high at the top of the table right now.

Rochdale v Southend

The last of our League One bets is on Rochdale who are 1.95Bet €100 to win €19519/20Bet £100 to win £195-105Bet $100 to win $1950.95Bet HK$100 to win HK$195-1.05Bet Rp100 to win Rp1950.9500Bet RM100 to win RM195  with Bet365 to beat Southend on home ground on Saturday afternoon.

Dale are 11th in the table with 15 points after a middling start to the season, but they’re on a great little run of form at the moment and are worth following. They’re unbeaten in seven matches since the 1-0 defeat at Oxford on the 3rd of September, and they’ve won the last five on the spin.

Southend may only be three points back with 12, but they’re ten places behind in 21st position. Away from home they’ve managed a 3-0 win at Sheffield United and a 1-1 draw at Bolton, but they’ve lost their other three road games this season, including 4-0 defeats in the last two at Scunthorpe and Northampton. They come up against a side here which is strong at home and is in red hot form at the moment.
