Count on Goals When Canaries Visit Craven Cottage

October 17, 2016

Norwich have scored at least twice in each of their last eight games.

It was a clean sweep in the Championship over the weekend as we landed three bets from three. Nottingham Forest and Birmingham combined on Friday night to produce a winning over 2.5 goal bet, while Newcastle and Norwich landed a short-priced double on Saturday afternoon with routine 3-1 victories.

We’re hoping for more of the same on Tuesday night as England’s second tier brings a full midweek fixture list, and three of the sides mentioned above feature in our tips. Norwich travel to a traditionally unhappy hunting ground when they visit Fulham at Craven Cottage. The Canaries have lost on their last seven trips to play the Cottagers, but Alex Neil’s top-of-the-table team will be hoping for better on this London visit.

Newcastle are steamrollering their way to promotion, and three straight league wins have left them hot on Norwich tails, just a point behind. The Magpies travel to a Barnsley side on Tuesday night which has lost four of its last five league matches. Meanwhile, Birmingham’s 3-1 defeat at Forest on Friday night wasn’t enough to deprive them of their place in the top six, and they have a chance to make amends with a home game against rock-bottom Rotherham.

Fulham v Norwich

Rather than back the Canaries to win, we’re opting for Over 2.5 Goals at 1.73Bet €100 to win €17373/100Bet £100 to win £173-137Bet $100 to win $1730.73Bet HK$100 to win HK$173-1.37Bet Rp100 to win Rp1730.7300Bet RM100 to win RM173  with Bet365Betfred and Ladbrokes.

Norwich are on a fine run of form which has seen them win seven of the last eight matches. They’ve scored at least twice in each of those games, and are second only to Newcastle as the division’s top scorers. That run has helped them to the top of the table with 26 points, and they won’t get a better chance to lift the Fulham hoodoo than on Tuesday night.

The Cottagers had a good start to the season, but it all went sour with a winless run of seven games which brought three draws and four defeats. They turned it around on Saturday with a 4-2 win at Barnsley, but might have hoped for an easier assignment than the league leaders in the next match.

Eight of the last nine Norwich fixtures have surpassed the 2.5 goal line, and the free-scoring yellows have notched 26 in that sequence. Four of Fulham’s last five have also had at least three goals, and on those statistics, the odds are fair value.

Barnsley v Newcastle

We’re also backing Newcastle to continue the good run at 1.70Bet €100 to win €1707/10Bet £100 to win £170-143Bet $100 to win $1700.70Bet HK$100 to win HK$170-1.43Bet Rp100 to win Rp1700.7000Bet RM100 to win RM170  with BetVictor and SkyBet when they visit Barnsley.

No doubt it will be a common theme for us this season to back Newcastle, and while it remains a profitable policy, it’s one we’ll stick to. Rafa Benitez is armed with a squad more than capable of winning this division, and he has the managerial credentials to back that up. 10 wins from 12 games in league and cup is the kind of form that gets teams promoted, and they dismissed Brentford with ease on Saturday in a 3-1 win. Dwight Gayle notched twice in that game and has now scored five in his last three matches.

Barnsley’s good start to the season had fans dreaming of promotion, but four defeats in the last five have brought them crashing back down to earth. They conceded four at home to Fulham on Saturday, and will struggle to cope with Newcastle’s firepower. However, after promotion from League One last term, staying in the Championship would have been the real priority for the Tykes. 16 points from 12 games is an excellent return so far and puts them in 11th place, and their season won’t be judged on games against the likes of Newcastle.

Birmingham v Rotherham

Birmingham are our final tip at 1.70Bet €100 to win €1707/10Bet £100 to win £170-143Bet $100 to win $1700.70Bet HK$100 to win HK$170-1.43Bet Rp100 to win Rp1700.7000Bet RM100 to win RM170  with BetVictor when they entertain Rotherham.

Those are decent odds for a top six side at home against the division’s bottom team, especially in light of their respective recent records. The Blues may have lost their unbeaten away record in the 3-1 reverse at Forest on Friday night, but prior to that they’d been on a run of seven without defeat. They remain in 6th place with an overall league record of 5-5-2, and it’s three wins from the last four matches at home.

Rotherham’s home and away form has been abysmal lately, and the 3-1 loss at Norwich on Saturday consigned them to five consecutive defeats. After just 12 games they’re already five points from safety, and it’s beginning to look like they may need a similar escape to the one they achieved last season. They’ve won just six points from a sole victory and three draws, but eight of their games have ended in defeat. They’ve conceded a league high 28 goals, and with confidence at a low, this is a perfect opportunity for Birmingham to get back on track.
