Showdaisy to be Hat-trick Heroine at Newcastle

October 18, 2016

Showdaisy bids for a hat-trick on the Newcastle all-weather track this afternoon.

3.00 Newcastle – Manatee Bay

It was very surprising that Manatee Bay was having his first all-weather start after 41 runs last time out at Newcastle over 6 furlongs. Perhaps it was because connections did not feel that the son of Royal Applause appreciated the artificial surface based on his gallops at home, but whatever the reason, the horse acquitted himself fantastically, placing second of twelve, finishing with a real flourish. Returned to the scene of his last performance, this race has a similar makeup and David Nicholls’ runner has a great chance of going one better. At odds of 6.50Bet €100 to win €65011/2Bet £100 to win £650+550Bet $100 to win $6505.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$6505.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp650-0.1818Bet RM100 to win RM650 , he looks a decent each-way shout from stall 4.

Manatee Bay is not what you would call a prolific winner. He has scored just 4 times in 42 starts, but does have a further 12 places to his name. His last win came in the summer of 2015 and although he has run respectable races in recent times, there hasn’t been any indication that he has been ready to return to the winner’s enclosure – that is until last time out at Newcastle. The son of Royal Applause can be a little tricky to ride. He tends to start slowly and is held up early, before finishing with a wet sail. Dandy Nicholls decided to put the visor on the horse back in autumn of 2014 (implying the horse may be a little lazy or may need something to concentrate) and since then, the headgear has been pretty much an ever present. There are a couple of factors that play into the hands of Manatee Bay in this contest; the fact that the race will be run at a track where he has already performed with credit, and also he is likely to get a good pace that will suit his hold up style.

In all honesty, this contest is very open, but as we have seen his last start when dropped back to Class 5 company, Manatee Bay can be very competitive. His odds are likely to double in running as he will be in the last few runners at half way, but under the impressive Barry McHugh, the enigmatic 6 year old gelding can finish with a flourish and hopefully land the spoils.

Bet – 1 point each-way Manatee Bay at 6.50Bet €100 to win €65011/2Bet £100 to win £650+550Bet $100 to win $6505.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$6505.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp650-0.1818Bet RM100 to win RM650  with Paddy Power

5.00 Newcastle – Showdaisy

Showdaisy is a filly on the up, and Keith Dalgelish’s 3 year old daughter of Showcasing has a fantastic opportunity to make it a quick fire hat trick at Newcastle. The addition of cheek pieces has seemed to really focus Dalgleish’s speedball and after two wins at Musselburgh, she returns to the all-weather at Newcastle. Although unsuccessful in three previous starts on the artificial surface, there is cause for hope that she will be equally as effective on the surface, as those efforts with her first three lifetime starts, and now things have clicked, the surface shouldn’t make a difference. Add to that the fact that Newcastle is a straight track and therefore no corners need to be negotiated, and it appears that Showdaisy has outstanding claims.

Showdaisy is a filly who likes to blast off from the front and stay there. Her first career success came at Hamilton when blazing the trail and then after a couple of misses, she returned to the winner’s enclosure in the first time cheekpieces at Musselburgh under similar forcing tactics. Followed that victory in a small field with a much more emphatic effort in a 14 runner contest at the same course, winning by just over 2 lengths. Under just a 6lb penalty, she should be able to repeat the tactics and hopefully score the hattrick.

Bet – 1 point win Showdaisy at 3.25Bet €100 to win €3259/4Bet £100 to win £325+225Bet $100 to win $3252.25Bet HK$100 to win HK$3252.25Bet Rp100 to win Rp325-0.4444Bet RM100 to win RM325  with Bet365
