Irish Optimism For Evening Punters at Chelmsford

October 20, 2016

Irish Optimism is John Quinn's only runner at Chelmsford on Thursday.

7.15 Chelmsford – Beatbybeatbybeat

The 7f, Class 5 fillies’ handicap at Chelmsford looks to be a red hot race, featuring three last time out winners, with two of those runners seeking a hat trick. We opt for one of those runners, Beatbybeatbybeat in what should be a fascinating and tactical race. A chesnut filly out of Poet’s Voice, Ismail Mohammed’s 3 year old has bounced into life in her last two runs, scoring twice on turf over a mile. Granted, conditions are different today (she is encountering the all-weather for just the second time and drops back in trip to 7 furlongs), but the horse looks a progressive type, has plenty of early toe and should be able to go close under the mandatory 6lb penalty. At odds of 5.50Bet €100 to win €5509/2Bet £100 to win £550+450Bet $100 to win $5504.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$5504.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp550-0.2222Bet RM100 to win RM550 , she really appeals as a solid each-way bet in an 11 runner field.

Beatbybeatbybeat ran 4 times as a 2 year old, eventually getting off the mark on his fourth start at Lingfield over 7 furlongs, showing his ability to handle an all-weather and left-handed course in the process. She came back in April but then disappointed in her next several starts, and clearly something wasn’t right. Connections reached for the visor and it worked a charm – she bolted up at Brighton by nearly 4 lengths, and the trainer clearly knew the headgear had a positive effect, as she went off a well-backed 4.50Bet €100 to win €4507/2Bet £100 to win £450+350Bet $100 to win $4503.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$4503.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp450-0.2857Bet RM100 to win RM450  favourite. Followed up that victory by winning at Bath over 8 furlongs, again in the headgear. Sits close to the pace and has stamina for beyond this trip, so it is expected that her jockey will make plenty of use of her.

The market leader is the George Margarson trained Shypen. Another horse chasing the hat trick, this one steps up in trip after firing off two wins over 6 furlongs. She is most certainly progressive, but has to prove her aptitude for the longer distance as a 3 year old (did win at Lingfield over it at 2). Will be travelling well assuming she doesn’t pull too hard early, but whether she has the stamina to outstay Beatbybeatbybeat remains to be seen. 7 furlongs is a different animal to the sprinting trips.

Bet – 1 point each-way Beatbybeatbybeat at 5.50Bet €100 to win €5509/2Bet £100 to win £550+450Bet $100 to win $5504.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$5504.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp550-0.2222Bet RM100 to win RM550  with Paddy Power

7.45 Chelmsford – Irish Optimism

John Quinn sends just one runner down to Chelmsford from North Yorkshire on Thursday night, and his sole entry Irish Optimism can give his trainer just that. A last time out winner, the 3 year old son of Approve has plenty of improvement left in him and can be backed at attractive odds – 5.50Bet €100 to win €5509/2Bet £100 to win £550+450Bet $100 to win $5504.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$5504.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp550-0.2222Bet RM100 to win RM550  to be precise.

Irish Optimism wasn’t seen until this year – the gelding didn’t have a 2 year old career. Whether that was design or due to issues with the horse, it remains to be seen, but he started off well, finishing second on debut before winning next time out. Had a few places in next handful of runs but didn’t fulfil early promise until penultimate run where he finished a close up second at Epsom in what looked a decent race. Built on that effort at Pontefract when a heavily backed favourite (went off at 2.25Bet €100 to win €2255/4Bet £100 to win £225+125Bet $100 to win $2251.25Bet HK$100 to win HK$2251.25Bet Rp100 to win Rp225-0.8000Bet RM100 to win RM225 ). Just won that day but indicated there would be more to come.  Likes to sit close to the pace and has an ideal draw from stall 2 to stalk the leaders. May need a little luck in running as the race unfolds, but assuming he gets it, everything looks in place for a big run.

Bet – 1 point win Irish Optimism at 5.50Bet €100 to win €5509/2Bet £100 to win £550+450Bet $100 to win $5504.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$5504.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp550-0.2222Bet RM100 to win RM550  with Bet365 and Ladbrokes.
