Neither Group A Minnow to Keep a Clean Sheet

November 21, 2016

Ludogorets drew 1-1 at Basel in September's Champions League clash.

Ludogorets against Basel is one of the least glamorous UEFA Champions League matches on this week’s card but the Group A game throws up its best bet – both teams to score in the Romanian city of Razgrad.

Neither Ludogorets nor Basel can reach the UEFA Champions League knockout stage so they are playing for the right to participate in the UEFA Europa League, which would have been each team’s respective target after the draw put them into the same section as Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.

In spite of its tough UEFA Champions League Group A draw, Ludogorets has scored in three of its four games versus Arsenal, Basel and Paris Saint-Germain and it rustled the onion bag in each of its six matches before the lucrative stage. Ludogorets has scored in 19 of its last 20 games across all competitions, the exception being when it lost 0-6 to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. And Ludogorets has conceded goals in seven of its 10 UEFA Champions League matches and it achieved two of its three clean sheets against Mladost of Montenegro in a very early round.

Basel scored in each of its first five UEFA Champions League games this season and currently its overall record stands at six out of eight, including both scores hitting the back of the net five times. Basel has scored in every one of its 15 Swiss Super League matches and, even though it is dominant domestically, it has conceded goals in nine of those games.

The winner of Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League Group A match will qualify for the UEFA Europa League because of UEFA’s head-to-head rule. One is expecting both Ludogorets and Basel to play positively and, in light of all the data listed above, a price of 1.87Bet €100 to win €18787/100Bet £100 to win £187-115Bet $100 to win $1870.87Bet HK$100 to win HK$187-1.15Bet Rp100 to win Rp1870.8700Bet RM100 to win RM187  makes plenty of appeal.

A UEFA Champions League game that may be light on goals is Tuesday’s Group G clash between Kobenhavn and Porto. Under two and a half goals is available at odds of 1.62Bet €100 to win €16231/50Bet £100 to win £162-161Bet $100 to win $1620.62Bet HK$100 to win HK$162-1.61Bet Rp100 to win Rp1620.6200Bet RM100 to win RM162  with Marathonbet and SkyBet and that makes it a good play.

Three of Kobenhavn’s UEFA Champions League Group G matches have gone under two and a half goals and its 4-0 home win over Club Brugge was 0-0 until the 53th minute. Kobenhavn may settle for a draw versus Porto given the state of UEFA Champions League Group G and, without its two usual starters up front, one cannot see the host playing with gay abandon.

Three of Porto’s UEFA Champions League Group games have gone under two and a half goals and it has not scored in its last two away matches. If either Kobenhavn or Porto breaks the deadlock in Denmark then one expects the side that takes the lead will shut up shot and try to slow down the game.

Finally, Cristiano Ronaldo began his brilliant career with Sporting and one cannot resist picking the Real Madrid star at odds of 1.92Bet €100 to win €19223/25Bet £100 to win £192-109Bet $100 to win $1920.92Bet HK$100 to win HK$192-1.09Bet Rp100 to win Rp1920.9200Bet RM100 to win RM192  with 888Sport and Unibet to get on the scoresheet against his former club on Tuesday.

Ronaldo has a remarkable record versus previous employers – CR7 has scored one goal in each of his three matches for Real Madrid versus Manchester United and Sporting. Ronaldo helped himself to a Spanish Primera Division hat-trick at Atletico Madrid on Saturday and, as everyone who watches Real Madrid on a regular basis knows, the world revolves around him. Ronaldo may not celebrate wildly if he scores against Sporting but he will be itching to net a goal.
