Hammers a Value Bet to Hold Mourinho’s Man Utd

It’s another full fixture list in the Premier League over the next few days, and SBO has got all the betting angles covered.

Chelsea continue to lead the way at the top of the Premier League, but they face one of their toughest tests on Wednesday when they visit an in-form Spurs side. The chasing pack can do no more than keep winning in an attempt to close the gap, and both Manchester United and Liverpool feature in Monday’s betting preview.

The Red Devils have won six on the spin in all competitions, but look a bit too short for the trip to West Ham in a fixture which has been traditionally tough. The Hammers may not have had the perfect start to life in their new stadium, but they held United to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford as recently as November and are decent value to get a result in the live TV match on Monday evening.

Liverpool are Chelsea’s closest challengers in 2nd place, and they’ll be hoping the Blues slip up at Spurs. Jurgen Klopp’s men will be looking at Monday’s away game at relegation-threatened Sunderland as a great opportunity to grab three points and really apply the pressure to Antonio Conte’s men. Once again the Reds are too short in the win markets, but a profitable call has been to back Liverpool to win and both teams to score this season and it’s a good bet again on Monday afternoon.

Finally West Brom have been underestimated by the layers to a degree, and they face a Hull side which has lost five consecutive away games. At close to even odds, there are few better home bankers than the Baggies on Bank Holiday.

West Ham v Manchester United

Yes the Red Devils are on a six-game winning run, but they’ve only won two of the last seven games against West Ham. The Irons tend to raise their game for this fixture and have won or drawn four of the last six home matches against the Manchester side. All of those games of course, were at the Boleyn Ground and this will be Mourinho’s first visit to the new London stadium with his team.

West Ham’s start in their new home has been a difficult one, with off-field infrastructure problems matched by nervous displays on the field. However, it’s worth pointing out that the win over Chelsea in the EFL Cup is regarded as the game that produced the best atmosphere at the ground yet, and the fans will always be up for a match against Man United. Despite a poor start it’s now just one defeat in seven at home for West Ham – the 5-1 humbling by Arsenal – and they’ve won four and drawn two of the other six. Slaven Bilic has seen something of a turnaround in recent weeks after a 2-2 draw at Anfield and back-to-back wins against Hull, Burnley and Swansea. They also dominated the match at Leicester over the weekend, and were unlucky to lose by a single goal.

There’s not much room to criticise Man United’s displays recently, but it could be said that they’ve had a favourable schedule in recent weeks. Arsenal, West Ham and Everton have all held them to 1-1 draws in the Premier League, and while a 1-0 win over Spurs reads well, victories over Crystal Palace, West Brom, Sunderland and Middlesbrough are nothing to write home about. In fact, it took two late goals from Martial and Pogba to snatch three points at ‘Boro, as United headed into the last five minutes a goal down.

Much depends on which West Ham side turns up – if it’s the one that crumbled against Arsenal this could be a routine Red Devils victory, but it’s worth a punt at the odds that the Hammers show up on Monday night.

West Brom v Hull

The Baggies have suffered recent defeats against Man United, Arsenal and Chelsea, but in-between have beaten Swansea and taken an impressive three points away at Southampton. Both Manchester clubs have been successful at the Hawthorns in the last five Baggies home games, but Tony Pulis has overseen wins on the other three occasions versus Swansea, Watford and Burnley. Hull definitely fall into the latter category in terms of quality, having won just three of nineteen Premier League games this season.

Hull are 19th on the league ladder and in real danger of relegation. It’s now five straight defeats on the road without a single goal to their name, and their last win of any kind was the 2-1 home victory over Southampton in November. Their only away win was at Swansea on the opening day – a result that looked good at the time, but looks less impressive in light of the Swans’ poor form.

Sunderland v Liverpool

The Black Cats are still in the relegation zone under David Moyes but they’ve scored in each of the last three games, including in defeat at Burnley and Manchester United in the last two. They’ve only failed to find the net twice in the last ten at home – against Chelsea and Everton – and are a fair bet to at least get on the scoresheet.

Liverpool’s 1-0 win against Manchester City marked an unexpected clean sheet, but this bet landed in their previous 4-1 defeat of Stoke at Anfield. The nature of Klopp’s style means that his side is always on the front foot, but always vulnerable to conceding at the other end. The Reds can outscore Sunderland here en route to another three points.
