Super Bowl LI MVP Betting Odds – Outside Contenders

February 3, 2017

The Super Bowl is the contest of where heroes are formed. Players can come out of nowhere to produce breathtaking moments of skill to win the Vince Lombardi trophy.

That is why the game is so exhilarating to watch for the neutral and agonising for the supporters of both teams. It’s rare that the match becomes a one-sided affair, with the result hinging on the fate of one or two plays in vital moments.

Players on the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons will be desperate to make their mark on the biggest stage. Quarterbacks Tom Brady and Matt Ryan are the outstanding candidates to win the Super Bowl MVP award.

However, we’ll look at the players that could be lurking in the shadows, ala Seattle Seahawks’ Malcolm Smith, who could snatch the Pete Rozelle trophy with odds from Bovada sportsbook.

Taylor Gabriel (Atlanta Falcons)

Julio Jones is the headline player outside of Ryan on the Falcons’ offense and the All-Pro will draw the majority of the coverage from the Patriots. As a result, there will be plays to be made for the rest of the receiving corps in one-on-one coverage against New England’s secondary.

Bill Belichick will do his utmost to steer his players towards blanketing Jones and number two option Mohamed Sanu, forcing Ryan to turn to Gabriel to beat them.

After two years with the Cleveland Browns, the 25-year-old has found his form with the Falcons, notching 35 receptions, 579 yards and six touchdowns. He was vital in easing the pressure on his offense against the Seahawks in the divisional round, catching four passes for 79 yards.

Gabriel will have to be at his best to make plays against New England. The third receiving option has been a death knell for Belichick’s men in the past, with New York Giants’ David Tyree and Mario Manningham making huge catches to defeat the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII and XLVI.

Chris Matthews almost did the same in Super Bowl XLIX and Gabriel will have his opportunity to propel himself into stardom with a dominating performance at NRG Stadium, with odds of 67.00Bet €100 to win €670066/1Bet £100 to win £6700+6600Bet $100 to win $670066.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$670066.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp6700-0.0152Bet RM100 to win RM6700 to win Super Bowl MVP.

Logan Ryan (New England Patriots)

Ryan was one of the players to make way from the Patriots’ secondary against the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX to pave the way for Malcolm Butler to make his game-saving interception. Ryan was bullied on that occasion by Chris Matthews, leading to Belichick pulling him from the contest.

However, the Patriots coach kept faith with the cornerback and he became a permanent fixture alongside Butler in the 2015 season, enjoying strong outings against DeAndre Hopkins and Demaryius Thomas.

He has continued that fine form in the latter half of the 2016 campaign after enduring initial struggles at the start of the term as he battled a shoulder injury.

He could draw the matchup against Jones with safety help over the top. It is an impossible task to take the All-Pro completely out of the game, but should the 25-year-old limit the damage or even snag an interception of Ryan it may be enough to turn the contest in his favour.

His contribution in limiting Jones’ impact on the Super Bowl would be huge and would deserve a nod for Super Bowl MVP, given the wideout’s importance to the Falcons’ offense. Taking Ryan at 101.00Bet €100 to win €10100100/1Bet £100 to win £10100+10000Bet $100 to win $10100100.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$10100100.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp10100-0.0100Bet RM100 to win RM10100 could be a solid option due to his role on Sunday.

Tevin Coleman (Atlanta Falcons)

The running back enjoyed an outstanding season for the Falcons, proving an excellent complement out of the backfied alongside Devonta Freeman.

Coleman provided a fine change of pace as he used his speed and shiftiness in the open field to cause havoc for opposing defenses, while Freeman dropped the hammer with his power through the middle of the line.

However, it’s Coleman that could be the game winner for the Falcons on Sunday. He rushed for 520 yards and eight touchdowns, while he also notched 421 receiving yards and a further three strikes through the air.

The 23-year-old is an incredibly hard player to defend due to his size and skill, which could cause match-up problems for New England, who have struggled to cope with receiving backs.

Seattle’s CJ Prosise racked up the yards in their win over Belichick’s men, and the Falcons will be determined to exploit that weakness with Coleman. Should he have a strong day on the ground and through the air it could be enough to drive his side towards their first Super Bowl win.

Coleman cannot afford to crack under the pressure as the Patriots demand perfection out of the players that could break them defensively. A clean game is a must from the back to clinch the Pete Rozelle trophy at 34.00Bet €100 to win €340033/1Bet £100 to win £3400+3300Bet $100 to win $340033.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$340033.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp3400-0.0303Bet RM100 to win RM3400.

Malcolm Mitchell (New England Patriots)

The rookie wide receiver could have a huge role to play in the Super Bowl after stepping up his recovery from a knee injury.

The issue forced him out of the end of the regular term and the divisional round clash against the Houston Texans, but he returned in the AFC Championship game and was limited in his role.

Mitchell almost caused an interception on the first drive of the game by tipping the ball into his hands of his namesake Mike Mitchell of the Steelers.

However, for the most part Mitchell has been outstanding this term, drawing rave reviews from Brady, especially in the second half of the campaign.

He was used as a threat in the redzone to replace the effect of losing Rob Gronkowski, which included a two-touchdown performance against the New York Jets. Julian Edelman and Chris Hogan will draw the majority of the coverage that will allow the 24-year-old to thrive in open space.

Mitchell has the speed and guile to weave through tackles as proven in his 56-yard touchdown against the San Francisco 49ers, while his hands have been reliable for the majority of the term.

Clutch catches can decide a Super Bowl, with Manningham and Tyree haunting the Patriots along with their own Wes Welker and his famous drop in their second defeat to the Giants.

Mitchell could step up to the plate in a big spot like Butler did two years ago to win a Super Bowl for the Patriots, with odds of 101.00Bet €100 to win €10100100/1Bet £100 to win £10100+10000Bet $100 to win $10100100.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$10100100.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp10100-0.0100Bet RM100 to win RM10100 to win Super Bowl MVP.
