Norwich and Newcastle Can Combine for Goals

February 13, 2017

Newcastle beat Norwich 4-3 in the reverse Championship fixture.

Newcastle, Norwich and Hudderfield all landed the odds at the weekend to give us a very profitable treble in the Championship. There’s no let up in England’s second tier though, and it’s back out onto the field on Tuesday evening with two of the above trio turning out against each other.

Newcastle produced one of the comebacks of the season back in September in the reverse fixture against Norwich. Trailing 3-2 deep into injury-time, the Magpies scored in the 95th and 96th minutes to secure a thrilling 4-3 victory. The Canaries were 2nd at that stage, Newcastle 3rd, but the clubs have gone in different directions since then. Rafa Benitez has led his side to the top of the table, while Alex Neil has overseen a a lengthy slide down the league. The New Year’s resolutions must have worked for Norwich though, because they lead the 2017 Championship form table after amassing 16 points since the turn of the year. The resurgence has taken them back up to 7th within touching distance of the play offs, and after a 5-1 battering of Notts Forest on Saturday, the players will relish the chance to get some revenge on the Magpies.

Another side in excellent form is Huddersfield, on a run of four straight wins after beating QPR away on Saturday. They face another away trip, but this time a much shorter one to Rotherham, where three points will strengthen the Terriers grip on third place. David Wagner admitted that his side rode their luck in that 2-1 win at Rangers, but it was another three points in the bag, and Tuesday’s opponents Rotherham remain rock-bottom of the league after losing four of the last five. Huddersfield have an FA Cup match against Manchester City to look forward to this weekend, but that shouldn’t distract them from the task of earning promotion points.

The same can be said of Fulham, who have a six point gap to close on the top six to have any chance of a return to the Premier League. The Cottagers host Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup, but that should not serve as too much of a distraction from this opportunity to collect three points from a weak-travelling Forest side.

Norwich v Newcastle

Over 2.5 goals at 2.15Bet €100 to win €21523/20Bet £100 to win £215+115Bet $100 to win $2151.15Bet HK$100 to win HK$2151.15Bet Rp100 to win Rp215-0.8696Bet RM100 to win RM215  with Marathonbet and Coral stands out in this battle between the two former Premier League sides.

The last three games between the pair have yielded 20 goals, at an average of 6.7 per game. Newcastle won 6-2 when they met in the top flight in October 2015, while Norwich won the rematch at Carrow Road 3-2 as both teams were heading for the relegation trapdoor. The 4-3 result for the Magpies earlier in the season kicked off a run of nine straight victories, and they are well-poised for promotion at the top of the table. They’ve hit back-to-back 1-0 wins over Derby and Wolves in the build up to this, but visit a Norwich side in red hot form.

The Canaries have won four of the last five matches, and six of the last seven league games at Carrow Road. They were three goals to the good inside 20 minutes against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, but Ross McCormack’s consolation after the visitors were reduced to ten men highlighted Norwich’s poor defence. The Norfolk club have conceded 43 goals this season, more than any of the sides above them in the top six. Picking a winner in this match is a difficult task, but this tipster is willing to bet there will be a few goals.

Rotherham v Huddersfield

Huddersfield are 1.73Bet €100 to win €17373/100Bet £100 to win £173-137Bet $100 to win $1730.73Bet HK$100 to win HK$173-1.37Bet Rp100 to win Rp1730.7300Bet RM100 to win RM173  with Bet365 and William Hill to drive another nail into Rotherham’s coffin, and the promotion-chasers are backed to do so.

One hopes that a glamour FA Cup tie with Manchester City doesn’t excuse the Terriers’ players from taking their eye off the ball here. Huddersfield currently sit third in the Championship table, six points behind 2nd placed Brighton. The Seagulls have a ‘winnable’ home game against Ipswich, but with Newcastle away at Norwich, this is a chance to gain some ground on the top two.

Rotherham have won just one match in the calendar year – a 2-1 home victory over Norwich where they were helped by Nelson Oliveira’s 18th minute sending off. Six defeats and a 1-1 draw with Blackburn is all they’ve managed in other fixtures in 2017, and it’s a huge 14 points to safety. While they may love to dent their local rivals promotion challenge, its been just one clean sheet in 27 league games.

Huddersfield have won four league games on the trot, and four of their last five Championship road games.

Fulham v Nottingham Forest

Fulham can account for road sick Nottingham Forest at 1.58Bet €100 to win €15829/50Bet £100 to win £158-172Bet $100 to win $1580.58Bet HK$100 to win HK$158-1.72Bet Rp100 to win Rp1580.5800Bet RM100 to win RM158  with 888Sport and Marathonbet.

Forest have lost six of the last seven on the road, with just a single point to show from a 0-0 draw with out-of-form Birmingham. The 5-1 humiliation at Norwich on Saturday will have done little for confidence, and they will look forward to returning to home comforts.

First they must travel to a Fulham side which has won it’s last three home games, and only been beaten once in the last ten at Craven Cottage. The West London club still has a live chance of reaching the play offs, as although they are six points adrift, they have a game in hand on some of their rivals. Once again we take the chance that players aren’t ‘saving themselves’ for the big FA Cup tie against Spurs at the weekend, but one would hope boss Jokanovic has his team fully focused on bagging three points on Tuesday night first.
