Norwich Among Championship Goals Again at Burton

February 16, 2017

Norwich drew 2-2 with Newcastle on Tuesday night.

Our headline bet in midweek of over 2.5 goals in the Norwich versus Newcastle games was done and dusted inside 17 minutes! A cracking game at Carrow Road eventually ended 2-2, and the Canaries are among our bets again this weekend as they continue to feature in high-scoring games. On Saturday it’s a trip to Burton Albion, and with the Brewers desperate for points in a bid for survival, an open game is on the cards.

Fulham and Huddersfield also came good – both winning by three goals to two – to make it a winning treble of bets and a streak of six consecutive winners since last weekend in the English second tier. While the upcoming round of fixtures may have been hit by FA Cup matches, there are still a number of games to get stuck into and a couple of home teams stand out.

Newcastle will enjoy being back in front of their own fans after that draw in Norfolk, and they welcome another of last year’s relegated sides in Aston Villa. It’s all gone pear-shaped for Steve Bruce at Villa in 2017 and his new club have lost seven of eight games since the turn of the year. A terrible away record for the Villains makes Newcastle a cracking bet to take all three points on Monday evening. We’ve made plenty of profit this season by backing against Rotherham, and the Millers are far and away the poorest side in the division this term. A single clean sheet in 28 games tells the story, and this weekend they visit a Cardiff side which is undergoing something of a renaissance under Neil Warnock. The Bluebirds have won three of the last four, including an incredible 4-3 away victory at Derby in midweek.

Burton v Norwich

The headline tip is over 2.5 goals when Burton host Norwich at 2.07Bet €100 to win €207107/100Bet £100 to win £207+107Bet $100 to win $2071.07Bet HK$100 to win HK$2071.07Bet Rp100 to win Rp207-0.9346Bet RM100 to win RM207  with 188Bet.

The Canaries and the Brewers have conceded 45 goals each this season – only four clubs in the division have conceded more. Norwich’s tally of 57 goals makes them the second highest goalscorers in the Championship, but that weak back line is the reason they sit in 7th position in the table. Burton have only notched 31 goals, which also goes some way to explaining why they sit in 21st, inches above the relegation zone.

Further analysis reveals that Burton have kept just four clean sheets in 17 home games across league and cups this season, but a 6-2-7 record in the league shows that they have at least been competitive. Norwich have had an awful away record over a prolonged stretch, with just one win in the last twelve games on the road. They’ve only managed three clean sheets in 19 away games across all competitions this term, so Burton can feel confident of finding the net. The Canaries can point to a 1-0 win at Cardiff and a 2-2 draw at Wigan in recent weeks as an upturn in away form, and with promotion so important, they will take an attacking approach here.

Newcastle v Aston Villa

Newcastle are still a decent price at 1.70Bet €100 to win €1707/10Bet £100 to win £170-143Bet $100 to win $1700.70Bet HK$100 to win HK$170-1.43Bet Rp100 to win Rp1700.7000Bet RM100 to win RM170  with William Hill to beat Villa, considering the latter’s form.

The Villains away record has been well documented over the last season and a half in both Premier League and Championship. Bruce has at least managed to oversee a couple of road wins – at Reading and QPR – since taking over mid-season, but the last five away days have ended in defeat with just a single goal for their troubles. Overall the Midlands club is on a run of 7 defeats in 8 games, including home losses in the last two to Barnsley and Ipswich.

Newcastle in form are head and shoulders above teams like that, and although they have been dropping the odd points here and there, the overall profile is very good. The Magpies have won four of the last five on home soil and remain top of the table. They are only a point above second-placed Brighton, but five clear of third-placed Reading. Rafa Benitez has targeted an average of two points per game to secure promotion, and will see this as a great opportunity to take all three.

Cardiff v Rotherham

Neil Warnock managed Rotherham last season, so his old club will be fired up to cause an upset, but Cardiff should still be much too good at 1.50Bet €100 to win €1501/2Bet £100 to win £150-200Bet $100 to win $1500.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$150-2.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp1500.5000Bet RM100 to win RM150  with SkyBetCoral and Betway.

The Bluebirds are a much stronger proposition under the experienced manager, and have steadily progressed up the table to take up position in the top half. Tuesday’s come-from-behind win at Derby showed excellent character and brought up a sequence of three wins from four.

Rotherham have lost eight of the last ten overall, and an astonishing 16 of the last 17 away matches. Rock-bottom of the table and 14 points from safety, it’s a tough time to be a Millers fan.
