Referee and History Point to Sydney Derby Red Card

February 16, 2017

The Sydney derby is a hard-fought affair.

Western Sydney versus Sydney is the most combustible fixture on the Australian A-League calendar and Football Federation Australia’s appointment of Chris Beath to referee Saturday’s ANZ Stadium argument may result in at least one red card.

Because Western Sydney did not enter the Australian A-League until 2012 there have been just 14 matches between Wanderers and Sydney but the atmosphere is electric whenever they meet in Australia’s harbour city. ANZ Stadium staff are expecting more than 50,000 fans to watch Western Sydney bid to become the first team to inflict an Australian A-League defeat on Sydney this season. There is a hell of a lot at stake.

Western Sydney is having a disappointing Australian A-League campaign. The former AFC Champions League title holder is 4-9-6 in the Australian A-League and three of its four wins have been achieved over the three sides below it on the ladder – Central Coast, Wellington and Adelaide. Western Sydney has struggled to register home victories, largely because Wanderers had to vacate Parramatta Stadium due to its demolition to make way for a new venue on the same site. Western Sydney is 1-5-3 in its nine Australian A-League home games, most of which have taken place at Spotless Stadium.

Sydney is flying high at the top of the Australian A-League ladder with a 14-5-0 record and a shot at history. Sydney has let in only nine goals in its 19 Australian A-League matches and its attack is averaging more than two goals per game. Sydney boss Graham Arnold has banned talk of the Sky Blues going through an entire Australian A-League season unbeaten but they have just seven more hurdles to jump.

The Australian A-League match bet on which one is very keen is there to be a sending off in Saturday’s Sydney derby at odds of 3.40Bet €100 to win €34012/5Bet £100 to win £340+240Bet $100 to win $3402.40Bet HK$100 to win HK$3402.40Bet Rp100 to win Rp340-0.4167Bet RM100 to win RM340  with William Hill. Some bookmakers do not list exotics on Australian A-League games but by all means shop around close to kick-off time to see if you can beat the odds that William Hill are quoting on Thursday.

There has been at least one red card in four of the 14 Australian A-League matches between Western Sydney and Sydney, including this term’s first ANZ Stadium clash in which Wanderers went down to 10 men in the 84th minute. Those numbers equate to odds of 3.50Bet €100 to win €3505/2Bet £100 to win £350+250Bet $100 to win $3502.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$3502.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp350-0.4000Bet RM100 to win RM350  so one can see why William Hill’s compilers reached their price. But while Beath is one of the Australian A-League’s most experienced officials, he has a reputation for imploding in big games and there is none bigger domestic than a Sydney derby.

Beath has refereed seven cross-city Australian A-League matches and he has brandished at least one red in four of those games. Beath’s Australian A-League city derby card average is running at 6.86 yellows and 0.57 reds. With Western Sydney eager to atone for its poor Australian A-League season and Sydney desperate not to fall to its first loss, the sparks are set to fly at ANZ Stadium and history says that Beath cautions and expels players when tackles come thick and fast in a charged environment.

No Australian A-League team has had more player sent off this term than Western Sydney’s five, while Sydney boasts the competition’s naughtiest operator, Joshua Brilliante, who has received seven yellow cards and one red card.

William Hill has made a rick by quoting odds of 3.40Bet €100 to win €34012/5Bet £100 to win £340+240Bet $100 to win $3402.40Bet HK$100 to win HK$3402.40Bet Rp100 to win Rp340-0.4167Bet RM100 to win RM340  when one thinks that the price about a sending off occurring in the Australian A-League showdown between Western Sydney and Sydney should be around the 2.50Bet €100 to win €2503/2Bet £100 to win £250+150Bet $100 to win $2501.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$2501.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp250-0.6667Bet RM100 to win RM250  mark in the circumstances.
