Barney to Repeat Last Week’s Victory vs. Wade

April 5, 2017

Raymond van Barneveld has the longest winning run in this year's Premier League.

Jelle Klaasen and Kim Huybrechts were already eliminated from the Premier League before last week’s judgement night, and the latter was absent from Cardiff due to family commitments. That meant Peter Wright was awarded a 7-0 victory in their proposed fixture, and left Huybrechts with the dubious honour of becoming the first player to go a full season in the Premier League without a win.

Raymond van Barneveld notched up his fourth straight win after sweeping past James Wade 7-2 to propel himself into the top four. The veteran Dutchman renews rivalries with Wade this week as both players double up at the 3Arena in Dublin. Wade starts out with an opening game against Michael van Gerwen in what looks a very tough double-header, while Barney will face Phil Taylor earlier in the night before returning to the stage for this game. Regardless of results in the preceding matches, van Barneveld looks a good bet to follow-up his comfortable win over the left-hander last week.

Another repeat of the action at Cardiff last Thursday night sees Gary Anderson and Adrian Lewis go head-to-head again, with the former having beaten the latter 7-3 just seven days ago. The Flying Scotsman is also worth backing to turn his statistical performances into points on the table. Despite having the second best tournament average, Anderson is only fourth in the Premier League after winning just four of his nine games.

We’re also keen on the chances of Peter Wright, who has done little wrong this season and sits 2nd in the table behind van Gerwen. Snakebite faces a game against a badly out-of-form Dave Chisnall, who has lost six of his nine Premier League games, and went down 7-1 to MVG last week.

James Wade v Raymond van Barneveld

Barney is in hot form at the moment and it’s worth keeping him on side at 1.73Bet €100 to win €17373/100Bet £100 to win £173-137Bet $100 to win $1730.73Bet HK$100 to win HK$173-1.37Bet Rp100 to win Rp1730.7300Bet RM100 to win RM173  with William Hill and Coral when he squares up against James Wade.

One can’t hold out much hope of Wade taking anything off van Gerwen in his opener, so the chances of him coming into this with a confidence boost appear slim. Barney may have a better shot of points against old rival Phil Taylor in his first game, but regardless, should take to the oche with two points in mind here. He’s beaten Klaasen, Anderson, van Gerwen and Wade in the last four Premier League ties, and tops the tournament 180 charts with 35 maximums in the season so far.

Wade had a decent start to the Premier League but has now lost four of his last five Thursday night games, with the only win coming against the eliminated Jelle Klaasen. The left-hander has dropped to second-bottom of the re-formatted table, and has a hard job to get back into play off contention.

Adrian Lewis v Gary Anderson

Anderson won for us last week by beating Lewis 7-3, and a follow up should be on the cards at 1.62Bet €100 to win €16231/50Bet £100 to win £162-161Bet $100 to win $1620.62Bet HK$100 to win HK$162-1.61Bet Rp100 to win Rp1620.6200Bet RM100 to win RM162  with Betway and Paddy Power.

The Scottish champ has averaged 102.70 throughout the Premier League season, he’s finished 44% of doubles, and has hit 32 180’s. Those figures should put him higher than the fourth place he occupies, but with 11 points and just 3 points behind van Gerwen, he’s in a good position to push for the play offs.

Adrian Lewis took out three Premier League games in a row against Taylor, Klaasen and Huybrechts prior to last week’s defeat, but with just nine points on the board he’s in danger of losing tough with the leaders. Anderson has beaten Wade in the last four meetings across all competitions, and another victory beckons.

Dave Chisnall v Peter Wright

Finally Peter Wright should justify odds of 1.57Bet €100 to win €15757/100Bet £100 to win £157-175Bet $100 to win $1570.57Bet HK$100 to win HK$157-1.75Bet Rp100 to win Rp1570.5700Bet RM100 to win RM157  with Coral and Ladbrokes when he lines up against Dave Chisnall.

Chizzy has not been playing to his best this season, as a 95.26 average demonstrates. at least he’s hit 34 180’s – putting him second in the season maximum stakes – but he’s bottom of the table now that Huybrechts and Klaasen have departed, and play off hopes look dim and distant.

Wright has hit an average of 99.15 this season, the third highest in the league, and he looks strongly poised to enter the last four with 13 points to his name in second place in the table. His breakthrough TV tournament win at the UK Open was a long time coming, and could herald the start of a good era for the charismatic player. If he plays to the same level that he has consistently produced throughout the season, he should take two points here with the minimum of fuss.
