Taylor En Route to Play Offs in Premier League Darts

The Betway Premier League of Darts visits Liverpool on Thursday for night eleven of the tournament. The Echo Arena will host a fantastic evening of action as Gary Anderson and Peter Wright double up with matches against Dave Chisnall and Michael van Gerwen respectively, before they face off in the final game of the night.

The Premier League table and last week’s results favour Mighty Mike, after he bagged two points from a 7-5 victory against James Wade in the first match at the 3Arena in Dublin last week. The left-handed Wade had led 4-2 early in the game as he looked on the verge of causing an upset, but a four-leg burst from the number one swung the game and he saw out the victory. It turned out to be a miserable night for Wade as he went on to lose 7-2 in the night’s final match against an impressive Raymond van Barneveld.

Barney’s victory might have looked less likely after he was beaten 7-3 in his first match of the night by Phil Taylor, but he cleared a 100+ average and threw five 180’s as he stormed past Wade to consolidate his position in third place. Peter Wright had to fight back from 6-3 down against a back-to-form Dave Chisnall to secure a draw, which allowed MVG to extend his lead at the top to two points. Chisnall and Wright both hit well above 100 averages in a high-class game which also saw the pair land 11 180’s between them.

In the night’s other game Adrian Lewis avenged his previous week’s defeat to Gary Anderson by beating the Flying Scotsman 7-3. Anderson is the hot favourite to beat Cizzy this week, but there might be a bit of value in backing the latter with a +2.5 leg handicap. In other bets we’re sweet on van Barneveld’s chances of hitting more maximums than Lewis, but first up it’s Phil Taylor who looks a decent bet to secure another victory over James Wade.

After a good start to the Premier League James Wade has fallen away quite dramatically, and is now second-bottom of the revised table, just a point ahead of Dave Chisnall. A double defeat to the two Dutch stars – van Gerwen and van Barneveld – last week was a critical blow, and his last win in the Premier League was against the now eliminated Jelle Klaasen.

Phil Taylor was held to a 6-6 draw by Wade when the latter was in the midst of his early purple patch, but the Power has pushed on and currently occupies the fourth play off spot. The former champion has said that he intends to call time on his illustrious career in early 2018, and if he follows through with that statement this will be his last season in the Premier League. He has only failed to reach the play offs once since the tournament began, and the knowledge that this is his last hurrah will surely focus the mind. Last week’s victory over van Barneveld was his third in a row after beating Klaasen and Wright, and he can extend that sequence to four on Thursday night.

It’s been a tough season for Chisnall who hasn’t been able to find his rhythm, but it all came together last week in the 6-6 draw with Peter Wright. Chizzy hit an average of 106.4 and threw seven 180’s as he stormed to a 6-3 lead, the only disappointment from his point of view that he couldn’t see the game out. He plays in his native Merseyside here, one that he has already said he’s looking forward to, and with the extra support he is taken to put up a good performance against the Scottish star.
