Laugh Aloud to Put a Smile on Gosden’s Face

April 15, 2017

John Gosden has a strong chance at Kempton with Laugh Aloud.

Saturday is a fantastic day of racing, with purists being spoilt for choice. There is a plethora of betting opportunities, and we have tried to narrow it down to a couple of runners who provide the best betting value.

1.50 Musselburgh – Penwortham

Richard Fahey does very well at this time of year with his horses returning from an absence, and he has a progressive and unexposed runner in the form of the 4 year old Penwortham. With just 10 starts under his belt, the son of Dandy Man may have some room for improvement this year and he could have the potential to be better than this grade.
Penwortham won his third start as a 2 year old and then didn’t cut much ice until mid way through his 3 year old campaign when winning a 7 furlong handicap at Goodwood. Again went off the boil after that success but bounced back on his last start of the season in September at Chester. Was held up off the early pace that day and then showed some strong staying power to close down the leaders and get into pole position just before the line. As mentioned, Richard Fahey has a great record with his handicappers returning from an absence at this time of year; horses off for 8+ weeks returning in April-May are 105/722 (14.5%) for £95 LSP, giving an A/E of 1.35Bet €100 to win €1357/20Bet £100 to win £135-286Bet $100 to win $1350.35Bet HK$100 to win HK$135-2.86Bet Rp100 to win Rp1350.3500Bet RM100 to win RM135 .

Roll On Rory is the second favourite and he also returns from a winter break. This runner is a versatile performer who won over 6 and 7 furlongs last season, including over course and distance. Is likely to be the chief threat to the selection, but is a little more exposed and we like the profile of the Fahey runner at 5.50Bet €100 to win €5509/2Bet £100 to win £550+450Bet $100 to win $5504.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$5504.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp550-0.2222Bet RM100 to win RM550  with Bet365, Ladbrokes and Coral.

3:45 Kempton – Laugh Aloud

John Gosden could have an extremely excited horse on his hands this season in the form of Laugh Aloud, and the 4 year old Dubawi filly should be able to take the 1 mile listed contest at Kempton without too much fuss. A last time out winner, she returns from a 204-day break to make seasonal debut, but fitness shouldn’t be an issue as Gosden will surely have wanted to have this filly relatively straight to start what could be a lucrative campaign.

John Gosden is an absolute master with female horses, and some might say he is the best in the business with the fairer sex. Laugh Aloud went off as a market leader over today’s course and distance in December of 2015 but was well beaten, recording an RPR of just 63. She was given a break and returning in May of 2016 and improved significantly to finish second. Has improved her RPR with each of her 6 runs, but made a huge leap forward last time out when dominating a 15 runner listed contest at Newmarket. Made all at racing HQ last September, eventually scoring by just shy of 3 lengths. That performance marked her as a classy performer, and she loves to bowl along from the front. A small field should be perfect and the Godolphin owned runner should be able to dominate her rivals.

John Gosden 4 year olds who won last time out have a great record; 53/192 (28%) for £83 LSP, for an A/E of 1.39Bet €100 to win €13939/100Bet £100 to win £139-256Bet $100 to win $1390.39Bet HK$100 to win HK$139-2.56Bet Rp100 to win Rp1390.3900Bet RM100 to win RM139  and his 4 year old females also do particularly well; 46/178 (26%) for £109 LSP, giving an A/E of 1.48Bet €100 to win €14812/25Bet £100 to win £148-208Bet $100 to win $1480.48Bet HK$100 to win HK$148-2.08Bet Rp100 to win Rp1480.4800Bet RM100 to win RM148 . Most of Laugh Aloud’s rivals are also coming off an extended absence and in terms of fitness, it should be a level playing field. Laugh Aloud should be odds on and is strongly fancied at 2.25Bet €100 to win €2255/4Bet £100 to win £225+125Bet $100 to win $2251.25Bet HK$100 to win HK$2251.25Bet Rp100 to win Rp225-0.8000Bet RM100 to win RM225  with Ladbrokes.
