Bank on an MVG Double in Premier League Darts

April 26, 2017

Michael van Gerwen beat countryman Raymond van Barneveld 7-2 last week.

It’s night 13 of the Premier League this Thursday night, as the world’s best descend on Birmingham for another round of matches. Michael van Gerwen and Adrian Lewis double up on a night which could have a huge effect on the Premier League table as we edge ever closer to the play offs.

Last week saw a series of results which served to concertina the table and muddy the play off picture further. Dave Chisnall was the big winner in Belfast with superb wins over Adrian Lewis and Phil Taylor. Chizzy beat the Jackpot 7-3 before returning to the stage to ease to a 7-2 win over the Power. That took him up to 12 points and within reach of a top four post, while relegating James Wade to the bottom of the table. Wade was beaten 7-3 in a low-quality match with Peter Wright in which both players only managed three-dart averages of 92. The two points were enough to keep Snakebite 2nd in the table, two points adrift of Michael van Gerwen in the battle for the £25,000 league winner’s bonus.

Taylor had earlier beaten Gary Anderson, leapfrogging his opponent into 3rd place. The Flying Scotsman looked to have it in the bag after taking a 4-0 lead, but Taylor hit back with some impressive darts to take seven legs in a row and win the match with an average of over 104. In the night’s other game, Michael van Gerwen spoiled Raymond van Barneveld’s birthday by beating his compatriot 7-2.

This week MVG opens his account against Dave Chisnall and finishes up with a tie against Adrian Lewis. He’s fancied to bag four points and push clear at the top of the table, while Lewis is backed to win his first match of the night versus James Wade. In other games, Gary Anderson could be worth backing to beat van Barneveld as the Scotsman looks to defend his fourth position and place in the play offs.

Michael van Gerwen Double Act

MVG can be backed at 1.80Bet €100 to win €1804/5Bet £100 to win £180-125Bet $100 to win $1800.80Bet HK$100 to win HK$180-1.25Bet Rp100 to win Rp1800.8000Bet RM100 to win RM180  with Bwin to complete a double over Chisnall and Lewis. Those odds may not make anyone rich, but the Dutchman will be fired up for this week’s action and will be very hard to play against.

Dave Chisnall has come back to form in the last few weeks and both of last week’s wins were impressive – he averaged over 104 on the night overall, and finished a healthy 52% of doubles. However, he has been beaten in the last 14 match-ups with van Gerwen, and Mighty Mike is known to come out firing on nights like this.

The second tie of the evening for the world number one might be a little tougher. It’s always hard for players to come out a second time and raise their game again, but both Lewis and MVG will attempt to do just that in the night’s final match. Lewis secured a 6-6 draw with MVG earlier in the Premier League season, but turned in a pretty average performance against Chisnall last week. He will be targeting a win against James Wade earlier in the evening, and might find it tough coming out again against the best player in the world.

James Wade v Adrian Lewis

That’s one reason we’re backing Lewis at 1.86Bet €100 to win €18643/50Bet £100 to win £186-116Bet $100 to win $1860.86Bet HK$100 to win HK$186-1.16Bet Rp100 to win Rp1860.8600Bet RM100 to win RM186  with 188Bet to beat James Wade.

The Jackpot is 6th in the table, but with 13 points to his name is only one behind Gary Anderson in 4th. He’s fancied to take to the stage fully focused for this first match, with the intention of taking two points and easing the pressure on his later game with MVG.

Wade had a decent start to this season’s Premier League but has gradually fallen away over the weeks. He’s now bottom of the revised table since Klaasen and Huybrechts elimination, and a play off place is far from reach. Wade has the lowest tournament average and has hit the least 180’s of all players left in the competition, and will have to play above that level if he is to trouble Lewis.

The Jackpot hit that incredible nine-dart finish just a few weeks ago, but last week’s defeat to Chisnall has seen him lose ground on the leaders. This double-header gives him a great chance to force his way back into the top four, but with the MVG game coming later, he’ll be targeting two points early on.

Gary Anderson v Raymond van Barneveld

Finally, Gary Anderson looks a decent price at 1.83Bet €100 to win €18383/100Bet £100 to win £183-120Bet $100 to win $1830.83Bet HK$100 to win HK$183-1.20Bet Rp100 to win Rp1830.8300Bet RM100 to win RM183  with Betway and Betfair to beat van Barneveld.

The pair are locked together on 14 points, although the Scotsman holds 4th by virtue of a superior leg difference. Barney’s played consistently well this season, but results have tailed off slightly and he managed just a 93.55 average in defeat last week. Anderson has the second highest tournament average of 102.68, but has failed to earn the results his performances would justify. He has beaten Barney in 11 of their last 12 meetings, and is a fair price to do so again as he retains a place in the top four.
