Browns To Improve In 2017 After Draft Haul

May 3, 2017

The NFL Draft has come and gone with all 32 teams stocking up on the latest round of talent from the college game.

Over 250 players were picked during the three days of the selection process, with a number guaranteed to become the latest stars in the league.

The Cleveland Browns owned the first pick in the Draft and used it wisely on the best player available, selecting defensive end Myles Garrett.

There were surprises aplenty over the course of the Draft with the Chicago Bears moving up one spot into second to select quarterback Mitchell Trubisky.

We’ll now break down the teams that enjoyed the best of the three days and see how it affects their odds for the 2017 season.

Cleveland Browns

The Browns made the sensible decision not to select Trubisky with the first-overall pick. Reports suggested that they could move for the quarterback after seeing their approach for Jimmy Garoppolo rebuffed by the New England Patriots.

However, they stood firm with the outstanding prospect Garrett and their defensive line now boasts a player that could develop into one of the leading pass-rushers in the NFL. If he has the same impact as Joey Bosa did for the Chargers last term then he could transform that defense.

Cleveland traded back into the 20s to accumulate further picks and at 25 they acquired a talented player in the form of Jabrill Peppers out of Michigan. He has played safety for the Wolverines, but could be a jack of all trades in Gregg Williams’ defense, providing energy and a cutting edge.

The Browns then moved back into the first round to cap off the first night, selecting athletic tight end David Njoku. He has the power and drive to be an impact player from the off and his arrival has already seen the departure of veteran Gary Barnidge.

Cleveland’s issue for failure over the past 20 years has been their lack of a quality starter at quarterback. Many have tried and failed, with Johnny Manziel and Brandon Weeden notable first round picks who did not deliver.

DeShone Kizer was selected in the second round and has time on his side to learn behind Cody Kessler. Should Kessler remain fit and build on the promise he showed last season – there’s no reason why the Browns should not be able to win over 4.5 matches at 1.62Bet €100 to win €16231/50Bet £100 to win £162-161Bet $100 to win $1620.62Bet HK$100 to win HK$162-1.61Bet Rp100 to win Rp1620.6200Bet RM100 to win RM162  with Coral due to the influx of talent added in the selection process over the past two years.

San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers have been lauded for their actions during the Draft, with rookie general manager John Lynch enjoying a solid start to life his new role.

The former NFL safety left the commentary booth to take up his role in the Bay Area, and with the second pick managed to convince the Bears to move up and hand his side the third selection along with a string of mid-rounders.

The 49ers bolstered their roster by picking Solomon Thomas – their third-straight first round selection on a defensive lineman, while they snatched the signing of Reuben Foster away from the New Orleans Saints by trading back into the first round.

Cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon was picked in the third round along with quarterback CJ Beathard – who was perhaps their only reach of the selection process.

As a result of picking the 23-year-old out of Iowa, the 49ers will likely start the season with Brian Hoyer as their starting signal-caller after passing on Trubisky as well as Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes.

Their issues last season lay on the offensive side of the ball due to their lack of talent in the skill positions, while they also had problems in their secondary.

Getting back on track under new head coach Kyle Shanahan will not be a simple task, especially in the NFC West and the players selected are likely to make a significant impact as rookies.

Therefore taking the under on 5.5 wins at odds of 1.80Bet €100 to win €1804/5Bet £100 to win £180-125Bet $100 to win $1800.80Bet HK$100 to win HK$180-1.25Bet Rp100 to win Rp1800.8000Bet RM100 to win RM180  with Coral is the punt to take, with an initial season of struggle expected for Shanahan in the Bay Area.

Indianapolis Colts

The AFC South outfit made changes at the end of the 2016 season, firing general manager Ryan Grigson and replacing him with Chris Ballard.

The new man in the hotseat made a number of savvy additions during free agency, bolstering the Colts on the defensive side of the ball signing John Simon, Jabaal Sheard and Johnathan Hankins.

Ballard continued his solid work in the Draft as he was able to profit on the strange decisions of the teams ahead of him to add one of the best players available.

Safety Malik Hooker was compared to Ed Reed and Earl Thomas in projections before the Draft, and was even touted to be selected in the top five.

However, he dropped right into the hands of Indianapolis – adding a quality player at the position they’ve missed since the departure of Bob Sanders.

The Colts solidified their secondary further with the selection of Quincy Wilson in the second round to pair with Vontae Davis, giving head coach Chuck Pagano two competitive corners on the perimeter of his defense.

Tarrell Basham was added in the third round, bolstering the club’s pass-rush – which has been sorely lacking since Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney were operating in tandem. Behind Simon and Sheard – he will have time to develop and offer a threat on situational downs.

Rounding out their impressive array of picks in the fourth round was running back Marlon Mack. The running back is the successor to Frank Gore and starred in his time at South Florida. He should provide a change of pace to ease the pressure on quarterback Andrew Luck.

The Colts won eight matches last season, but with their additions they should be able to break the 10-victory mark at 2.20Bet €100 to win €2206/5Bet £100 to win £220+120Bet $100 to win $2201.20Bet HK$100 to win HK$2201.20Bet Rp100 to win Rp220-0.8333Bet RM100 to win RM220 .
