So Mi Dar Out to Prove She is a Star at York

May 18, 2017

So Mi Dar has a favourite's chance at York on Thursday.

A day to forget yesterday as we had one non-runner and our strong fancy Brando broke a blood vessel and trailed in last. Strong hopes today for profit, with two selections at York’s Dante meeting put up by the SBO Racing team.

2.55 York – So Mi Dar

John Gosden has a special touch with the fillies (the equine variety anyway!) and he is doubly represented in the Betfred Middleton Stakes (Group 2) with So Mi Dar and The Black Princess. We are going for the former, with the 4 year old Dubawi filly So Mi Dar having achieved more to this point. She is partnered by multiple time classic winner Frankie Dettori and could turn out to be top class this season.

So Mi Dar started her career at Windsor back in October of 2015. Although she was not hugely fancied in the market, Gosden’s filly managed to score by a neck. She was given the winter off and returned at Epsom, and took her form to the next level by scoring in a conditions race, hitting an RPR of 103 in the process. Followed that up with a highly impressive in a Group 3 contest at York and made it a perfect 4 wins from 4 runs at Yarmouth. After 4 really impressive runs, Gosden sent his filly to France and she went off as an odds on chance for a Group 1 contest. Was checked in her run, and was unlucky to finish a close up third, but otherwise, this progressive filly would have been unbeaten.

John Gosden does very well when he keeps his 4 year old fillies in training; 47/181 (26%) for £110 LSP, with the runners winning nearly 50% more often than they should do based on odds. So Mi Dar is a versatile runner in terms of ground and track position, and she should be odds on for this contest. Take the 2.00Bet €100 to win €2001/1Bet £100 to win £200+100Bet $100 to win $2001.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$2001.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp2001.0000Bet RM100 to win RM200  on offer with Bet365, Coral and Ladbrokes.

5.35 York – Grumeti

We love Alan King flat runners here at SBO Racing, and Grumeti looks like he has a very good chance of supplementing his victory at Wolverhampton back in March. This is undoubtedly a much stiffer task, but the 2015 Cesarewitch winner has plenty of class and should relish conditions. He is currently available at odds of 8.50Bet €100 to win €85015/2Bet £100 to win £850+750Bet $100 to win $8507.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$8507.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp850-0.1333Bet RM100 to win RM850  with Bet365 and BetVictor and that looks a juicy price, so we recommend an each-way bet.

Grumeti is a really interesting horse who has experienced an unusual career. Most horses who have stamina in their pedigree will start out on the flat and will then transition to National Hunt (hurdles and chasing) after they have some experience under their belt. Grumeti did the opposite, showing himself as a high class hurdler, before his form tailed off a little. Connections freshened the horse up and switched him to the flat and has acquitted himself well.
The 9 year old gelding made a very pleasing return to action at Wolverhampton, winning a race that probably wasn’t run to suit. He ground out the victory and that was really impressive given the horse was entitled to need the run after a winter break. The switch to York’s long home straight and the return to the turf should really benefit this horse and he can go on to better things this season. Alan King does very well with his flat handicappers off for 6+ weeks; 41/288 (14%) for £61 LSP, giving an A/E of 1.46Bet €100 to win €14623/50Bet £100 to win £146-217Bet $100 to win $1460.46Bet HK$100 to win HK$146-2.17Bet Rp100 to win Rp1460.4600Bet RM100 to win RM146 .

The favourite is the Michael Bell trained Graceland. The horse is unpenalized for winning last week and was impressive when stepping up for the first time, but this is tougher and there could be more emphasis on the horse’s stamina.
