Yachting Gods to Favour Artemis in Louis Vuitton Cup

May 22, 2017

Artemis Racing represent the value in the Louis Vuitton Cup.

The competition to challenge Oracle Team USA for yachting’s top prize, the America’s Cup, cranks up on Friday and one thinks that Artemis Racing represents the value option.

Never before has the road to the America’s Cup been more complicated and, while one can see what the organisers are trying to do, it is in danger of going down the same path as the Super Rugby tournament in which many rugby union fans have lost interest because its format is too convoluted.

The first point to make is that the America’s Cup World Series, which ran from July 2015 to November 2016, should not be the be-all and end-all when it comes to analysing form. The America’s Cup World Series was little more than a 16-month pubicity stunt for the Louis Vuitton Cup and, of course, the America’s Cup. Yes, Land Rover BAR earned two points towards the Louis Vuitton Cup and Oracle Team USA will start the aforementioned event on one point because of their respective America’s Cup World Series performances but all of teams will be racing very different yachts in Bermuda over the next month. Just because Land Rover BAR, skippered by four-time Olympic Games gold medallist Ben Ainslie, won the America’s Cup World Series does not mean that the British team will take out the Louis Vuitton Cup.

Oracle Team USA will defend the America’s Cup irrespective of how it fares in the Louis Vuitton Cup because it is the holder of the former trophy. So, why Oracle Team USA will race against the other five competitors – Emirates Team New Zealand, Artemis Racing, Groupama Team France, Land Rover BAR and SoftBank Team Japan – for Louis Vuitton Cup betting purposes they cannot be resulted as the winner. See what one means about the America’s Cup being overly complicated?

According to Bet365, Emirates Team New Zealand is the Louis Vuitton Cup favourite ahead of Land Rover BAR with Artemis Racing third in line, SoftBank Team Japan fourth best and Groupama Team France as the outsider. One cannot understand why Artemis is so far behind Emirates Team New Zealand and Land Rover BAR when, according to the America’s Cup World Series results, the Swedish collective was competitive and the word out of Bermuda is that it is flying ahead of the Louis Vuitton Cup getting under way this week.

Of the 40 America’s Cup World Series races, Artemis Racing won nine compared to Land Rover BAR’s 10, Oracle Team USA’s seven, Emirates Team New Zealand six, SoftBank Team Japan’s four and Groupama Team France’s four. Yes, Artemis Racing’s lack of consistency meant that it finished the America’s Cup World Series in fourth position on 466 points behind Land Rover BAR (512), Oracle Team USA (493) and Emirates Team New Zealand (485) but the Swedish group’s best was very good and it sounds as though it is handling the switch to a different type of yacht as well as anyone in the tournament. Artemis Racing won two of the last three races in the America’s Cup World Series and its main man, Nathan Outteridge, is an Australian sailor who won gold in the London 2012 Olympic Games and has claimed half a dozen world titles.

Artemis Racing is available at odds of 4.50Bet €100 to win €4507/2Bet £100 to win £450+350Bet $100 to win $4503.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$4503.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp450-0.2857Bet RM100 to win RM450  with Bet365 to win the Louis Vuitton Cup and become the first Swedish collective to qualify for the America’s Cup. This series marks the second time that Artemis Racing has challenged for the America’s Cup and its head is Torbjorn Tornqvist, a Switzerland-based Swedish billionaire who loves yachting.
