Back Vettel and Save on Hamilton in Monaco

May 24, 2017

Vettel and Hamilton dominate the betting ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel appear to be head and shoulders above their Formula One rivals so backing one and saving on the other is one’s preferred way to bet on the Monaco Grand Prix, the most iconic race on the calendar.

Hamilton is the Monaco Grand Prix favourite going into the weekend of qualifying and racing. Hamilton’s name features twice on the Monaco Grand Prix honour roll, which is once more than Vettel’s name, but the British driver’s overall record on the streets of the principality is not all that flash. In fact, it is ordinary. Hamilton has made 10 Monaco Grand Prix appearances and he has only beaten his teammate in five of those races. With doubts as to which car is the best on this year’s Formula One grid, one cannot step into Hamilton at favourite odds, at least without some support.

One suspects that Ferrari may have a better package than Mercedes around the Monaco Grand Prix street circuit and that is one of the reasons why one is more interested in Vettel than Hamilton. Vettel has a 5-4 Monaco Grand Prix head-to-head record versus his colleagues but he has faced the likes of Daniel Ricciardo and Mark Webber in his nine starts and the two Australians are famous for their skill around the principality’s tight streets. Therefore, one is willing to give Vettel any benefit of the doubt regarding his Monaco Grand Prix prowess.

With Ladbrokes and Coral quoting odds of 2.75Bet €100 to win €2757/4Bet £100 to win £275+175Bet $100 to win $2751.75Bet HK$100 to win HK$2751.75Bet Rp100 to win Rp275-0.5714Bet RM100 to win RM275  about Vettel winning the Monaco Grand Prix compared to the odds of 2.30Bet €100 to win €23013/10Bet £100 to win £230+130Bet $100 to win $2301.30Bet HK$100 to win HK$2301.30Bet Rp100 to win Rp230-0.7692Bet RM100 to win RM230  that 32Red, 888Sport and Unibet are listing about Hamilton taking the chequered flag first, one thinks that backing the German driver and saving on his Briton rival makes sense – place 56.52 per cent of your stake on Vettel and 43.48% of your stake on Hamilton to break even should the Mercedes man triumph and collect on a 1.58Bet €100 to win €15829/50Bet £100 to win £158-172Bet $100 to win $1580.58Bet HK$100 to win HK$158-1.72Bet Rp100 to win Rp1580.5800Bet RM100 to win RM158  winner should the Ferrari guy win. It is about time that Ferrari took out a renewal of the Monaco Grand Prix; the Prancing Horse have not prevailed in the principality since 2001.

Experience of the Monaco Grand Prix track is paramount so one is keen to back Sergio Perez to post a better finish in Sunday’s race than his Force India teammate, Esteban Ocon. Perez has beaten his colleague in three of his five Monaco Grand Prix appearances and, in each of the other two races, he was faster than his teammate in qualifying before having to retire due to collisions. Perez has outperformed Ocon in each of the five Formula One races so far this season. Perez is trading at odds of 1.57Bet €100 to win €15757/100Bet £100 to win £157-175Bet $100 to win $1570.57Bet HK$100 to win HK$157-1.75Bet Rp100 to win Rp1570.5700Bet RM100 to win RM157  with Bwin to beat Ocon in the Monaco Grand Prix and that looks like a rock-solid wager.

With Fernando Alonso competing in the Indianapolis 500, his McLaren seat in Formula One will be kept warm by his former colleague, Jenson Button. Button won the 2009 Monaco Grand Prix but he has defeated his teammate in just five of his 11 starts in the illustrious race and one thinks that he will find it extremely challenging to come in from the cold for one weekend only. Carlos Sainz is available at odds of 1.55Bet €100 to win €15511/20Bet £100 to win £155-182Bet $100 to win $1550.55Bet HK$100 to win HK$155-1.82Bet Rp100 to win Rp1550.5500Bet RM100 to win RM155  with Bwin to get the better of Button in the Monaco Grand Prix and there is no doubt in one’s mind that the Spaniard boasts a better technical package than the Briton.
