Vaulted to Finish in Pole Position at Musselburgh

May 26, 2017

Friday's tips include a great value bet at Musselburgh.

4.30 Bath – Gambol

Bath is an unusual racecourse as it is positioned significantly above sea level. As a result, the ground at the course is usually very quick, so most of the runners that visit have a preference for fast ground. Gambol is one such horse who we think will benefit from the return to a sound surface, and in the first time visor, he looks potentially well treated off a mark of 57.

When Gambol started his career and showed his best form, he was mostly kept to good to firm ground. Following a short stint on the flat, Gambol moved from Barry Hills to Ian Williams with a mixed campaign of flat racing and hurdles in mind. It is fair to say that it took Williams a while to find the key to Gambol, and after acquiring the horse in early 2015 it took the skilled handler until March of 2017 before he scored, winning a 2 mile selling hurdle at Stratford. Followed up that success with a victory at Exeter before disappointing on next two starts. The horse is clearly an enigmatic character and his trainer has decided that the switch back to the flat and the application of visor can have a positive impact. The bookmakers have not completely disregarded Ian Williams’ runner, but even at odds of 6.00Bet €100 to win €6005/1Bet £100 to win £600+500Bet $100 to win $6005.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$6005.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp600-0.2000Bet RM100 to win RM600  with Bet365 and BetVictor he seems to be generously priced and represents the best bet in the race.

Ian Williams does very well when he applies the visor to his runners for the first time; 12/68 (18%) for £57 LSP, with the horses winning 33% more often than they should do based on odds. The 13 furlong trip should be perfect and the horse is quite versatile when it comes to tactics. The favourite Willyegolassiego is clearly in great form, having won 2 of her last 3 starts, but those victories came on the all-weather, and the horse is yet to place on turf.

8.40 Musselburgh – Vaulted

Richard Fahey doesn’t have too many runners owned by Cheveley Park Stud, but he could have an improving filly this year in the form of Vaulted. The daughter of Kyllachy is making her seasonal reappearance and she has scope to progress to better things this term. She is well bred (naturally being owned by the stud) and although this is a tough and competitive race, she can be backed at odds of 9.00Bet €100 to win €9008/1Bet £100 to win £900+800Bet $100 to win $9008.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$9008.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp900-0.1250Bet RM100 to win RM900  with Ladbrokes and BetVictor.

Vaulted had 5 runs last season, and was confined to maiden company. She ran to a very similar level in her first 4 starts, before disappointing on soft ground in the first time cheek pieces on her last start of the year. Went off favourite on last two starts of the year, so connections clearly thought she had some ability and was showing talent at home. This time round, the quicker ground should suit and she has been stepped up to 7 furlongs for her reappearance. Richard Fahey handicappers off for 8+ weeks returning in March-May are 106/736 (14%) for £90 LSP, with the runners winning 33% more often than they should based on odds.
