Jack Hobbs a Great Shout on Day Two at Royal Ascot

June 21, 2017

Jack Hobbs is the call in the Prince of Wales' Stakes at Ascot.

Two winners yesterday gave us a nice profit to start the week at Royal Ascot, and we hope to continue the winning trend on Wednesday, with some nice priced selections.

If you’re following our tips don’t forget that Bet365 have a host of special offers and enhanced terms for every race throughout the week.

2.30 – Jersey Stakes (Group 3) 7 Furlongs

Godolphin had an exceptional day on the curtain raiser at Ascot and they will be looking to continue the run on day two, and the powerful operation have a particularly strong chance in the Jersey Stakes with the talented Dream Castle. Saeed Bin Suroor has given talented female jockey Josephine Gorden the ride and although she is second favourite, this 7 furlong trip could yield further improvement.

Dream Castle didn’t make his debut until April of this year, when bolting up at Doncaster. Followed that run up with a very creditable second at Newbury in the Greenham Stakes. Was free in the early stages and burst clear in the last two furlongs, looking like the most likely winner. The horse’s stamina ebbed away in the final stages and the horse was passed by yesterday’s winner Barney Roy, so the form of the race has worked out fantastically. Went on to the 2000 Guineas and endured a torrid run, hitting trouble in running on more than one occasion. Eventually finished beaten just over 3 lengths. The drop back to 7 furlongs will most definitely suit and although the French trained Le Brivido is favourite due to his short head second in a Group 1 in France, we like Dream Castle at 5.00Bet €100 to win €5004/1Bet £100 to win £500+400Bet $100 to win $5004.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$5004.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp500-0.2500Bet RM100 to win RM500  with Bet365 and Coral.

3.05 – Queen Mary Stakes (Group 2) 5 Furlongs

Happy Like A Fool hails from the Wes Ward yard (who provided us with an emphatic winner in the form of Lady Aurelia) and the trainer has won the last two running’s of this race, so it is understandable that the once raced 2 year old filly is a strong favourite for the Queen Mary Stakes. However, the daughter of Distorted Humor is only available at cramped odds, and we prefer to look a little further down the field. Clive Cox is a shrewd trainer with his 2 year olds, and Heartache is a once raced, once victorious filly who put in a highly impressive performance on debut. She can be backed at 7.50Bet €100 to win €75013/2Bet £100 to win £750+650Bet $100 to win $7506.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$7506.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp750-0.1538Bet RM100 to win RM750 with Bet365, which seems to be too big.

Heartache was a second favourite on debut for a novice contest at Bath. She was a little green out of the stalls and again showed her inexperience as they quickened 2.5 furlongs from home. However, once the penny dropped, the daughter of Kyllachy fairly stormed home, trouncing her rivals by 6 lengths. The filly was only going away at the end of the race and she looked like she would come on significantly for the outing. Ascot’s stiff 5 furlongs will be perfect and Heartache is likely to be bearing down on Happy Like A Fool late in the piece.

3.40 – Duke Of Cambridge Stakes (Group 2) 1 Mile

We have supported the talented Laugh Aloud from the John Gosden stable in all three of her runs this year, and there is no reason for us to abandon the talented daughter of Dubawi now she encounters her biggest test of the year. The 4 year old is chasing a hat trick and she has a superb chance of going in again.

Laugh Aloud came back at Kempton for seasonal reappearance and disappointed, but put that performance behind her, bolting up in Listed company at Goodwood by over 3 lengths, before winning even more emphatically at Epsom, scoring by 5 lengths. This horse can either lead or sit close to the pace and she handles all types of ground. John Gosden does very well when keeping his 4 year old fillies in training; 48/184 (26%) for £109 LSP with the horses winning 46% more often than they are entitled to based on odds. She is the rightful market leader at 3.50Bet €100 to win €3505/2Bet £100 to win £350+250Bet $100 to win $3502.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$3502.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp350-0.4000Bet RM100 to win RM350  with Bet365.

4.20 – Prince Of Wales’ Stakes (Group 1) 10 Furlongs

We are supporting two John Gosden runners back to back and Jack Hobbs has a very solid chance of recording back to back victories. After becoming somewhat of a disappointing horse in 2015/2016 despite his high level of ability, the son of Halling showed his true colours last time out when racing in Meydan, bolting up over 12 furlongs. Back at 10 furlongs on a stiffer course, Jack Hobbs should be able to go close again. There are legitimate rivals in the form of Highland Reel and Ulysses, but the former had a hard race last time out, and the latter needs to improve another 4-5lbs from his career best performance in order to trouble the other protagonists.

Jack Hobbs is likely to sit midfield early and will hope that there is a strong pace. He can be backed at 4.00Bet €100 to win €4003/1Bet £100 to win £400+300Bet $100 to win $4003.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$4003.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp400-0.3333Bet RM100 to win RM400  with Coral and BetVictor and has a strong chance.

5.00 – Royal Hunt Cup (Class 2 Handicap) 1 Mile

The Royal Hunt Cup is a cavalry charge – 30 runners hurtling down the field on the straight mile. The market leader El Vip has been installed as a 9.00Bet €100 to win €9008/1Bet £100 to win £900+800Bet $100 to win $9008.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$9008.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp900-0.1250Bet RM100 to win RM900  favourite, which is indicative of the openness of the contest, and as such we find it difficult to be too dogmatic about any of the horses.

One runner who marginally catches the eye is the Jeremy Noseda trained Abe Lincoln. This horse has endured a stop-start career and returns to this contest on the back of a 370 day absence, but Noseda will surely have got his horse ready for the big occasion. With just 5 starts to his name, Abe Lincoln has tonnes of potential to make up into a Group performer, and the Newmarket handler normally has a good gauge of his horse’s ability. He was last seen finished a short second over course and distance, so he clearly handles the track. The son of Discreet Cat is a tentative selection at 12.00Bet €100 to win €120011/1Bet £100 to win £1200+1100Bet $100 to win $120011.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$120011.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp1200-0.0909Bet RM100 to win RM1200  with Coral and Ladbrokes.

5.35 – Sandringham Handicap (Listed Handicap) 1 Mile

Another big field and another tricky contest to end the day on Wednesday, as 24 runners compete for a valuable prize. Really Special is not totally ignored by the market, but Saeed Bin Suroor’s runner is available at double figure odds, and he looks the play in a trappy contest.

Really Special debuted last autumn and won two races in quick succession, with the second performance an impressive all-the-way success in a Listed race at Newmarket. Was shipped off to Dubai and after winning her first start there, her improvement petered off. She has been given 118 days off the course and will come back fresh and ready to strike. Saeed Bin Suroor does very well with his handicappers returning from more than 90 days off the course; 74/299 (25%) for £88 LSP, with the horses scoring 43% more often than they are entitled to based on odds. She is likely to be ridden prominently and should go well at 15.00Bet €100 to win €150014/1Bet £100 to win £1500+1400Bet $100 to win $150014.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$150014.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp1500-0.0714Bet RM100 to win RM1500  with William Hill.
