Peterborough Recruit Miller’s Boots are Golden

July 29, 2017

Ricky Miller has joined Peterborough for the forthcoming season.

Ricky Miller is a combustible character but if Peterborough can keep their summer signing in the good books of referees and on the pitch he could be the answer to this season’s English League One top goal scorer puzzle at long odds.

Miller owes us nothing because he was one’s pick at huge odds to be the English National League’s Golden Boot winner last term. Miller scored 40 English National League goals last season for his former club, Dover, finishing 15 goals ahead of Forest Green forward Christian Doidge. Indeed, only Doidge and Tranmere striker Andy Cook scored even half of the 40 English National League goals that Miller netted.

On the books of Charlton as youngster, Miller did not make the grade at the Addicks and ended up moving to Woking and then Stamford. Miller first came to one’s attention when he was the English National League North Player of the Year in 2014, scoring a bag of goals as Boston missed out narrowly on a spot in the play-offs. A switch to Luton did not pan out but he made a positive impression on Dover during his loan spell with the English National League team and the Whites picked up him when the Hatters released him.

Being charged with assault, a charge of which he was found not guilty when he had his day in court, did not prevent Miller from scoring goals for fun in Dover’s colours. And Miller’s 40 English National League goals last season was all the more remarkable given that he missed quite a few matches due to both suspension and being out of favour.

An English Football League side was always going to take a punt on Miller after Dover failed to secure promotion from the English National League and it was no surprise when that side was Peterborough because the Posh have speculated on several non-league players in recent years. According to Peterborough’s director of football, Barry Fry, the Posh would have done business with Dover for Miller in January but Whites officials did not return Fry’s telephone calls. Fry, who has made a living identifying talent in the lower levels of the English pyramid, is a good judge who thinks that Miller will make the grade in English League One.

Peterborough has a reputation for being one of English League One’s most attack-minded teams and it is merited. Peterborough had 608 goal efforts in its 46 English League One games last term, which was an impressive tally for the side that finished 11th on the ladder – eight-placed Oxford (653), fifth-placed Bradford (640) and champion Sheffield United (624) were the only teams to outshoot the Posh.

Miller, who takes penalty kicks which is a necessity for any English League One Golden Boot contender, is trading at odds of 15.00Bet €100 to win €150014/1Bet £100 to win £1500+1400Bet $100 to win $150014.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$150014.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp1500-0.0714Bet RM100 to win RM1500  with several bookmakers, including BoyleSports, Ladbrokes and William Hill. Miller is a winner in whom the Peterborough hierarchy, including outspoken chairman Darragh MacAnthony, young manager Gavin McCann and Fry, have placed their faith and he knows that this is his last chance to make it in the big time. If you took one’s advice to back Miller last season then you should not take much persuading to reinvest some of your winnings. You owe it to Miller because he won the English National League top goal scorer race in a manner that made a mockery of his 26.00Bet €100 to win €260025/1Bet £100 to win £2600+2500Bet $100 to win $260025.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$260025.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp2600-0.0400Bet RM100 to win RM2600  odds.
