Gunners Great Start to Continue at Stoke

August 19, 2017

Arsenal fought back to beat Leicester 4-3 last week.

There’s some great Premier League action on the box this weekend, and we’ve got tips covering just about every televised game. Read here for a preview of the big one between Spurs and Chelsea along with other bets.

Saturday evening’s game features Stoke and Arsenal – a fixture that has traditionally been labelled a tough one for the Gunners. The old cliche about a wet and windy Tuesday night in Stoke is often trotted out, and it’s true that Arsenal have only won on two of their last eight visits to the Potters. However, this is not a cold frosty winter’s night, but a balmy August evening and we’re going to buck the trend by backing the Gunners to come away with three points.

Another intriguing fixture is the Sunday lunchtime clash between Huddersfield and Newcastle. This was a Championship fixture last season, and the two clubs have had very different starts to the new Premier League season. The Terriers find themselves in the top two after last week’s brilliant 3-0 win at Palace, while Newcastle suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Spurs in which Jonjo Shelvey was sent off. There wasn’t a huge amount between these clubs over the course of last season in the second tier – they took three points off each other – but for some reason the bookmakers are offering very generous odds about a home win. Odds that are good enough to take on the under-rated Terriers continuing their dream start.

Stoke v Arsenal

Firstly the Gunners can take all three points from Stoke at 1.93Bet €100 to win €19393/100Bet £100 to win £193-108Bet $100 to win $1930.93Bet HK$100 to win HK$193-1.08Bet Rp100 to win Rp1930.9300Bet RM100 to win RM193  with Marathonbet, and inflict their second defeat in two games.

Mark Hughes side have been tipped by one of our writers to struggle this season, and it would be no huge surprise to see them dragged into a relegation battle. Whether that transpires remains to be seen, but they were comfortably beaten by Everton last week, and continue a tough opening set of games with this visit of Arsenal.

As stated, the Gunners have won just two of their last eight visits to Stoke, but one of those was last season’s 4-1 win in May of this year. While speculation remains over the future of Alexis Sanchez, new signing Lacazette has hit the ground running, and Olivier Giroud came off the bench to grab the winner in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Leicester.

One of Stoke’s strongest points over the years was a very tight defence, marshalled by manager Tony Pulis. Mark Hughes took over the job with the mandate of playing a better style of football, but that has been achieved at the expense of the defensive solidity. Stoke do maintain a very strong home record, in part thanks to their partisan fans, but they are always vulnerable against the top sides in the division and Arsenal might just have too much firepower on Saturday evening.

Huddersfield v Newcastle

Of the two sides, one would much prefer to be on Huddersfield at 2.50Bet €100 to win €2503/2Bet £100 to win £250+150Bet $100 to win $2501.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$2501.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp250-0.6667Bet RM100 to win RM250  with Bet365 and William Hill given their strong home record.

One of the Terriers strong points last season as they earned promotion from the Championship was their record in front of their own fans, and David Wagner quickly installed a sense of togetherness throughout the club. That kind of momentum can carry a football team a long way, and both Huddersfield and Brighton could surprise a few this term as they ride a wave of euphoria.

Newcastle gave a good account last week against Spurs but were always on the back foot, particularly after Shelvey was given his marching orders. Injuries have also hit Rafa Benitez and the Magpies may play a more pragmatic game here as they try to get their first points on the board. It’s going to be a tough task though, because this is Huddersfield’s first home game of the season, and after last weekend’s brilliant win, there is going to be a party atmosphere at the John Smith’s stadium.
