Siege Of Boston to Dropkick Rivals at Chelmsford

August 31, 2017

Thursday's racing tips come from the all weather at Chelmsford and Wolverhampton.

3.20 Chelmsford – Siege Of Boston

Siege of Boston is a really interesting runner on the back of a mini break, and John Butler’s representative has a solid chance in a what is an open looking 7 furlong handicap. He has the benefit of a good draw in stall 3 and should be able to give bettors a run for their money.

Siege Of Boston has run 16 times in total and won on just the solitary occasions – but good news for supporters of John Butler’s horse – that victory came over today’s course and distance on the all-weather. The son of Starspangledbanner was under the care of dual-purpose trainer Gordon Elliott in Ireland and he switched stables at the start of 2017. Butler has found the key to the horse, as he won on stable debut at Chelmsford and followed that up with a very sound effort at Wolverhampton. Was slowly away and just failed to reel in the leaders. Being slowly away is something that has been an issue with Siege Of Boston’s starts, but he has a great finishing kick which allowed the horse to be in with a shout each time he runs. As long as the start isn’t totally fluffed this time, the horse should be competitive and is overpriced at odds of 6.50Bet €100 to win €65011/2Bet £100 to win £650+550Bet $100 to win $6505.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$6505.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp650-0.1818Bet RM100 to win RM650  with Bet365.

John Butler places his horses well and is profitable when he has the top weight in a handicap; 29/113 (26%) for £51 LSP, giving an A/E of 1.67.

8.40 Wolverhampton – Tafteesh

Mick Easterby has to be one of the oldest active trainers, and the wily Yorkshireman has forgotten more than most people know about the racing game. As well as being an astute handler, he is also shrewd when it comes to the betting ring, and when there is money for one of his runners, bettors should take note. His entry in the 7 furlong, Class 6 handicap at Wolverhampton is Tafteesh, and the 4 year old Kodiac gelding is on a retrieval mission after being beaten as a favourite last time out. The odds compilers have overlooked Easterby’s horse in their opening markets, and he is currently available at odds of 12.00Bet €100 to win €120011/1Bet £100 to win £1200+1100Bet $100 to win $120011.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$120011.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp1200-0.0909Bet RM100 to win RM1200  with BetVictor.

Tafteesh started his career with Simon Crisford and the horse won a maiden at Salisbury back in 2016 when he was a 2 year old. The horse was subsequently gelded and was off for 8 months before moving yards to the Easterby stable. Didn’t show much on his first two starts for the yard, being beaten 24 lengths and 15 lengths. Was given the winter of 2016 off and came back this April a rejuvenated horse – finishing midfield at Wolverhampton over 6 furlong. Has continued to run inconsistently this term but connections clearly thought that they had a well handicapped horse last time out, as Tafteesh went off as favourite for a fast ground 6-furlong contest at Catterick last time out. That money seemed to be misplaced as Catterick is a very sharp course, 6 furlongs is a little sharp for the horse and the fast ground wasn’t ideal. The conditions of tonight’s race at Wolverhampton fit the horses strengths much better – 7 furlongs on the all-weather. Tafteesh ran fifth over today’s course and distance in April off a mark of 69, and he gets to race off 62 today. A reproduction of April’s effort would see the horse win.

As mentioned, Mick Easterby likes a bet and he doesn’t like it when the money is down and the horse doesn’t score. When his runners are beaten favourites last time out, they are profitable on their next run; 71/378 (19%) for £17 LSP, with the horses winning 27% more often than they are entitled to based on odds.
