Master Archer to Hit the Target at Kempton

September 13, 2017

Wednesday's racing includes tips on the all weather track at Kempton.

4.00 Uttoxeter- Barton Rose

It is September and that means that the jumps season is creeping upon us. There are a smattering of races throughout the month and then things ramp up in October before the National Hunt season gets going in earnest in November. Trainers adopt different approaches to their horses, with some handlers bringing along their runners slowly, ensuring they progress as the season unfolds, while others like to get off to a flying start, hovering up the early prize money. This divergence in approach gives us betting opportunities and value, and one trainer who likes to get winners on the board early is Charlie Longsdon. His runner Barton Rose has some useful form and there are plenty of reasons to like the daughter of Midnight Legend. She can be backed at odds of 6.50Bet €100 to win €65011/2Bet £100 to win £650+550Bet $100 to win $6505.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$6505.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp650-0.1818Bet RM100 to win RM650  with BetVictor.

Barton Rose joined the Charlie Longsdon yard from Michael Blake’s stable last October and the horse recorded one victory from eight starts in last year’s campaign. Her last start was at Towcester over 2 miles 4 furlongs on fast ground and the horse finished second. That run was back in May and the ground was most likely a little too fast, as the horse has shown his best when competing on ground with a little cut in it. That effort was good as there was clearly something wrong with the 8-year-old prior to that run as the horse was pulled up on his last two runs. She has been off for 132 days but fitness should not be a problem, as Charlie Longsdon runners off for 120+ days returning September-December are 88/361 (24%) for £152 LSP, with the horses scoring 25% more regularly than they should do based on odds.

Barton Rose is versatile when it comes to tactics, distance and ground and her trainer is likely to have her fitter than a number of her rivals.

7.45 Kempton – Master Archer

Master Archer is from the James Fanshawe stable. That is an immediate plus. The horse might be a little bit of a rogue as she is 0/8, but he is very consistent. The Mastercraftsman gelding has recorded similar form figures in most of his recent starts but has hung late in the day and may not have been putting it all in. Perhaps that has been down to the distance or the ground, but today we have the horse running over 2 miles and on the all-weather, so there should be no excuses.

Master Archie started his career last winter and didn’t show much in two maidens, so he was put away by connections and gelded. The horse was stepped up in trip for his third start and showed more over 10 furlongs at Windsor. A feature of his runs has been the horse staying on at the finish, and he has also hung in some of his runs. Two starts back, connections reached for the cheek pieces to help the horse concentrate, and his form has improved, with the gelding achieving two second placed finishes at Sandown and Nottingham last time out. James Fanshawe runners who competed on turf last time out and are switching to the all-weather do very well; 85/360 (24%) for £115 LSP, with the entrants scoring 50% more than they should do.

Master Archer isn’t the most reliable runner, but there is room to think he can step forward under new conditions at odds of 4.50Bet €100 to win €4507/2Bet £100 to win £450+350Bet $100 to win $4503.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$4503.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp450-0.2857Bet RM100 to win RM450  with BetVictor and Bet365.
