Blades Too Sharp for Norwich in Championship

September 14, 2017

Billy Sharp scored twice in the 3-1 win over Derby.

Two of our three bets landed in midweek to make it a profitable Tuesday evening in the Championship, with only the long shot of Middlesbrough winning at Villa letting us down. That bet was always in the balance after Boro’s Traore was sent off after 4 minutes, but the visitors did well to hang on to a 0-0 draw. Well enough for us to back them again this weekend when they return home to play host to QPR.

However, our headline bet this Saturday is on Sheffield United, who are enjoying a fine return to the second tier this season after promotion last term. The Blades are riding high in 3rd place in the Championship table after winning five of seven games so far. This weekend they welcome a struggling Norwich side to Bramall Lane, but can be backed to take the scalp of the Canaries at very nice odds. By contrast, Norwich have won just two games this season have already suffered three defeats, and sit 14th on the developing league ladder.

Top of the table Leeds are unbeaten in this year’s Championship after five wins and two draws. This weekend sees them visit one of the other promoted teams in Millwall – a side which is not having the same inspired start as Sheffield United. The Lions have managed just the one win in seven so far, and are 19th in the table. Leeds have won their last three away games in the division, but Millwall will have a go at anyone on home soil, which could make this game ripe for goals.

Sheffield United v Norwich

First we’ll back the form team Sheffield United at odds of 2.50Bet €100 to win €2503/2Bet £100 to win £250+150Bet $100 to win $2501.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$2501.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp250-0.6667Bet RM100 to win RM250  with William Hill and Betfair.

Those sort of odds would not be available were it not for the facts that Norwich were a Premier League side two seasons ago and the Blades were a League One side last term. On current form Sheffield United could be an excellent bet to claim another three points against the stuttering Canaries.

Norwich were a hot favourite to claim a home win over Burton Albion in midweek, but were held to a goalless draw by the side teetering on the brink of the relegation zone, and were met with boos by the home supporters at the final whistle. The Canaries have managed just two league wins this season – at home to Birmingham and QPR – and have lost two of three away games, conceding four each at Villa and Millwall.

Sheffield United have had a dream start back in the English second tier, winning five of seven including the last four. They’ve beaten some decent sides too, with Derby and Sunderland among their recent victims. Tuesday’s 1-0 away win at fellow promoted side Bolton saw them move up to third in the table, two points behind early leaders Leeds United. They’ve won three out of three on home turf, and are a decent bet to get the better of a Norwich side struggling for confidence and consistency.

Millwall v Leeds

Leeds have won three away games on the trot and could extend their lead with a win at Millwall, but over 2.5 goals is the call at 2.18Bet €100 to win €21859/50Bet £100 to win £218+118Bet $100 to win $2181.18Bet HK$100 to win HK$2181.18Bet Rp100 to win Rp218-0.8475Bet RM100 to win RM218  with Marathonbet.

Leeds are among the top scorers in the Championship with 14 goals in seven games, but they’ve kept it tight at the back by conceding just two all season. They’ve scored at least two on in each of their three away games and smashed five past Burton Albion at home two weeks ago. The Elland Road club are in fine scoring form and will go to promoted Millwall hopeful of another win and another three points.

The Lions are always competitive at the Den though, and have also been among the goals this season. They’ve scored ten and conceded nine in seven games, resulting in one win, three draws and three defeats. Their last two home games have been a 4-0 win over Norwich and a 3-4 defeat to Ipswich, and they took part in a 2-2 draw at QPR in midweek. The South London outfit rarely fail to score on home soil, but will be hard pressed to keep out a rampant Leeds side.

Middlesbrough v QPR

Our final recommended bet is on Middlesbrough to grab a home win over QPR at odds of 1.75Bet €100 to win €1753/4Bet £100 to win £175-133Bet $100 to win $1750.75Bet HK$100 to win HK$175-1.33Bet Rp100 to win Rp1750.7500Bet RM100 to win RM175  with BetStars and Unibet.

Boro have muddled their start to the season a little bit but still sit handily in ninth, six points off Leeds at the top. They were reduced to ten men in the first few minutes away at Aston Villa in midweek, so did well under the circumstances to hold out for a 0-0 draw. That brought up a run of four unbeaten overall and they are still yet to concede a goal at home this season (four games in league and cup). Scoring has been a problem with just 7 goals on the board so far, but Britt Assombalonga scored twice in the 3-0 win at Bolton last Saturday and could be back on the mark here.

QPR are only a place behind Boro in the table, also on 11 points. However, only one of those points has come on the road after a 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday, with their other two road trips ending in defeat at Norwich and Cardiff. They’ve actually lost 8 and drawn 2 of their last 10 Championship aways over the back end of last season and the start of this.
