Foxes Have Too Much Bite for Terriers on Saturday

September 15, 2017

Leicester travel to Huddersfield on Saturday in the Premier League.

It’s back to the bread and butter of the Premier League after a cracking week of European football, and there are some good old-fashioned English ties on Saturday afternoon.

Huddersfield’s dream start to the season was brought to an abrupt end at West Ham last Monday night as they tasted defeat for the first time in the Premier League. The 2-0 scoreline probably reflected West Ham’s dominance over the 90 minutes, and Town boss David Wagner admitted that his side weren’t good enough to get anything from the game. This week they welcome former Champions Leicester to the John Smith stadium, and will test their mettle against a team that are possibly in a false position.

The Foxes have already played Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea in their first four games, and have lost all three. Their only fixture versus a team outside of the ‘top six’ was a 2-0 victory over newly-promoted Brighton. Three points from four games sees Leicester hovering above the relegation zone, but it seems likely that they are better than their current position of 17th, and they are a good price to get three points on Saturday.

Another promoted side, Newcastle, endured a poor start by losing their first two, but two wins in the Premier League since then have lifted the gloom. The Magpies host Stoke in a traditional 3pm kick off on Saturday, and will hope to make it three out of three. The Potters are no easy assignment though, and have already taken points off Manchester United and Arsenal – albeit on home ground.

Finally West Brom host West Ham in another match which looks particularly tight. The Baggies started brilliantly with a pair of 1-0 wins over Bournemouth and Burnley, but they’ve since drawn with Stoke and suffered a 3-1 shock defeat at Brighton. The Hammers lost their first three Premier League games, conceding 10 goals to boot, but stopped the rot with the much-needed victory over Huddersfield. There’s arguably little to choose between these two teams, and again the draw makes plenty of betting appeal.

Huddersfield v Leicester

Leicester are attractively priced to take three points at Huddersfield at odds of 2.30Bet €100 to win €23013/10Bet £100 to win £230+130Bet $100 to win $2301.30Bet HK$100 to win HK$2301.30Bet Rp100 to win Rp230-0.7692Bet RM100 to win RM230  with Bet365 and BetVictor.

The Terriers had a perfect start to life in the top flight with a 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace, but the Eagles went on to lose their first four in the league and part company with Frank de Boer. A slender 1-0 win over Newcastle followed and had Huddersfield fans in dreamland, but a 0-0 draw with Southampton and the Monday night loss at West Ham have brought them back down to earth.

Leicester fans must have cursed the fixture computer when their raft of games came out, and predictably struggled against the might of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal, although they ran the Gunners close in a memorable 4-3 defeat on the opening day of the season. A 2-0 win in the calmer waters of a home tie against Brighton is a better indicator of their ability in the context of this match, and they are good enough to grab a second win of the season.

West Brom v West Ham

The value here lays with the draw at 3.25Bet €100 to win €3259/4Bet £100 to win £325+225Bet $100 to win $3252.25Bet HK$100 to win HK$3252.25Bet Rp100 to win Rp325-0.4444Bet RM100 to win RM325  with Betfair and 188Bet.

Two of the last four meetings between these clubs have ended in draws, with one win each. Despite the otherwise views of optimistic fans, these are both solid mid-table clubs who are unlikely to trouble the European places any more than they are the relegation places. The Baggies are generally strong at home but only managed to beat Bournemouth by a goal to nil and were held to a 1-1 draw by Stoke most recently. Like any Tony Pulis team, they are strong at the back but can struggle for goals.

Slaven Bilic was given a stay of execution after the 2-0 win over Huddersfield brought a three-game losing run to an end. The clean sheet will also restore plenty of confidence after conceding 10 in those first three. The Hammers started Monday’s home victory with a back three and it would be no great surprise to see Bilic employ the same tactics on Saturday. The onus will be on West Brom to break them down, but that’s exactly the kind of situation in which the Baggies struggle.

Newcastle v Stoke

Finally we’ll also tip the draw at 3.30Bet €100 to win €33023/10Bet £100 to win £330+230Bet $100 to win $3302.30Bet HK$100 to win HK$3302.30Bet Rp100 to win Rp330-0.4348Bet RM100 to win RM330  with Winner Sports and Betfair when Newcastle host Stoke.

The Magpies lost their first two games at home to Spurs and away at Huddersfield, but have turned the tables with impressive wins at home to West Ham and away at Swansea. The nature of the Geordie crowd always ensures that Newcastle play on the front foot at home no matter who the opposition, and they were good value for the 3-0 beating of the Hammers in their last run out on home turf.

Stoke are much more solid than that fragile West Ham side though, and are unbeaten since the opening day 1-0 defeat at Everton. That includes a victory over Arsenal and a 2-2 draw with Man United at home, and a 1-1 away draw at West Brom. The Potters drew on their last two Premier League visits here (both in 2015), and are certainly good enough to come away with a point again on Saturday.
