Everton to Bounce Back to Form in Carabao Cup

September 20, 2017

Everton have lost four in a row ahead of the Carabao Cup tie against Sunderland.

Wednesday night’s games in the Carabao Cup feature some of the Premier League’s big guns, but betting value is hard to come by. The draw has resulted in a number of one-sided affairs, with both Manchester clubs, Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea all up against inferior opposition. Nobody will get rich by backing all of the above to win, so we’re going to get a bit creative with our betting selections.

We tipped Crystal Palace to bounce back from a poor run of form last night and they duly did the business at home to Huddersfield – a 1-0 win seeing them through to the next round. Another side enduring a rocky patch is Everton, who have lost four in a row without finding the net. The Toffees entertain Sunderland on Wednesday, and there are good reasons to believe that they can get back on track with a decent win.

Manchester City travel to West Brom, in what is arguably the most competitive match of the evening, but Pep Guardiola’s side are very short at the odds to book their place in the fourth round. The Baggies will be looking to upset the apple cart, but their most recent form hardly inspires confidence. More presentable odds are available to backers of a Man City win with both teams scoring, and that looks a viable option.

Chelsea drew a blank in the 0-0 draw with Arsenal over the weekend, but can be expected to find their shooting boots against Championship side Nottingham Forest. It was only a week ago that the Blues thumped Qarabag 6-0 at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League, so this is a daunting prospect for a Forest side which has lost three of the last four and has already conceded more goals than most in the English second tier this season.

Everton v Sunderland

Everton are backed to cover a -1.5 Asian Handicap and win by at least two goals at odds of 2.16Bet €100 to win €21629/25Bet £100 to win £216+116Bet $100 to win $2161.16Bet HK$100 to win HK$2161.16Bet Rp100 to win Rp216-0.8621Bet RM100 to win RM216  with 188Bet.

Ronald Koeman’s side has lost four in a row without scoring, but the opposition have been of a very high quality. Defeats against Chelsea, Spurs, Manchester United and Atalanta away in the Champions League are excusable in the context of this match. Back in calmer waters against a struggling Championship side, there is no reason why Everton shouldn’t control the game and cruise to a comfortable win.

Sunderland, after relegation from the top flight, are not creating the impression they can bounce straight back. The Black Cats are teetering above the relegation zone in the Championship after just one win from eight games this season. The league is the overwhelming priority for boss Simon Grayson, and one suspects that this midweek cup match is an unwelcome distraction.

West Brom v Manchester City

Man City have won on each of their last five visits to West Brom, and on three occasions did so whilst conceding at the other end. A City win and both teams to score is 3.00Bet €100 to win €3002/1Bet £100 to win £300+200Bet $100 to win $3002.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$3002.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp300-0.5000Bet RM100 to win RM300  with Paddy Power.

Even if Pep Guardiola opts to rest players the Man City squad has so much talent and strength in depth that it will still be a team full of internationals. Tony Pulis is in a tricky situation with this game, because while he will be tempted to rest one or two first-teamers, the last thing he will want is a four or five goal thrashing. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Baggies manager name a strong team, and on home soil his charges are always capable of getting on the scoresheet.

Manchester City have scored at least four goals in each of their last three games, however, and it would be the biggest surprise of the night if West Brom’s defence can keep them out.

Chelsea v Nottingham Forest

Finally it’s worth a bet on over 3.5 goals in the Chelsea v Forest game at odds of 2.01Bet €100 to win €201101/100Bet £100 to win £201+101Bet $100 to win $2011.01Bet HK$100 to win HK$2011.01Bet Rp100 to win Rp201-0.9901Bet RM100 to win RM201  with Marathonbet.

The Blues could easily cover the target themselves if in top form, as that 6-0 thrashing of Qarabag last week demonstrated. Antonio Conte is sure to rest several first-team players, but like Man City, the Chelsea squad is packed with talent throughout.

Forest drew 2-2 away at Newcastle in the last round of this competition before notching a winner in extra-time, and a glance through recent fixtures confirms that they are a team that regularly features in high-scoring games. They’ve found the net in most of their fixtures this term, so it isn’t beyond them to grab a goal or two here, but they will almost certainly concede plenty against a side which is some distance their superior.
