England To Triumph In Third ODI At Bristol

The second ODI between England and the West Indies was a washout at Trent Bridge as only 14 deliveries were bowled.

Gayle was fortunate to escape a cheap dismissal in the opening match of the series. He edged Chris Woakes’ delivery to Root at slip, only for the Yorkshireman to drop the ball.

Liam Plunkett has been the Three Lions’ best ODI bowler this season. He has not been heralded for his work, but has become a valuable contributor. Only two players in world cricket have taken more wickets than the 32-year-old in ODIs this season.

Plunkett has stated his desire to end 2017 as the leading wicket-taker in the 50-over format. He played well against the Windies on the side of his hometown club Durham. The pace bowler took three wickets in the T20 clash, although he failed to take a strike in the ODI opener.

The 32-year-old has been plying his trade in the middle overs in a solid partnership with Adil Rashid. His pace and variations have allowed him to strike with regularity over the course of the season. Plunkett has dragged his average down into the low 30s and boasts a solid strike rate of 32.2.

The Yorkshire bowler has a good record against the Windies, taking his wickets at an average of 19.31. He took 10 wickets in England’s whitewash win over Holder’s men earlier in the year in the Caribbean, highlighting his threat against the tourists’ batting unit.
