Real Madrid to Beat Spurs in A Game of Goals

October 17, 2017

Real Madrid play Spurs in the Champions League without Gareth Bale.

Former Spurs midfielder Gareth Bale will miss out on playing against his old club in tonight’s Champions League tie through injury, but it promises to be a top European clash and a thrilling match.

The European Champions are trailing Barcelona by five points in La Liga, but haven’t skipped a beat in the tournament they aim to defend for the third year running. A 3-0 win at home over APOEL and a 3-1 win away at Dortmund gives them a perfect six points in group H so far. Tottenham have also amassed six points though, in a much better start to their campaign than last year. Spurs have beaten APOEL 3-0 on the road and beaten Dortmund 3-1 at Wembley. Those near identical results have prompted Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane to describe this match as the “first group final”, and his team will travel to London in two weeks for the return leg.

On the same night, another eye-catching tie is the one between Manchester City and Napoli at the Etihad Stadium. Both teams are renowned for goals aplenty, and it could turn out to be an absolute cracker. City top group F having beaten Feyenoord and Shakhtar, but Napoli’s defeat to the latter means they are behind with three points. Neutrals will hope this game sees the two sides going toe-to-toe in a bout of attacking football.

Of the other fixtures, Leipzig’s home match against Porto in group G is a difficult one for the bookmakers to assess. Two games in, Besiktas top the section with six points, Porto are second with three points, while the two favourites to win the group – Monaco and Leipzig – are floundering with just a point each. It’s the Red Bull-sponsored side’s first foray into the Champions League, and as many a team has found before them, it is a step up in quality. Porto won 3-0 in Monaco, and they are a very tempting price to repeat the trick in Germany.

Real Madrid v Spurs

The only place to start is at the Bernabeu, where a punt on Real Madrid to win and both teams to score is odds of 2.63Bet €100 to win €263163/100Bet £100 to win £263+163Bet $100 to win $2631.63Bet HK$100 to win HK$2631.63Bet Rp100 to win Rp263-0.6135Bet RM100 to win RM263  with Bet365 and 888Sport.

A feature of both team’s recent form is that they rarely fail to find the net. Both have scored in nine of the last ten matches – Spurs’ only failure in a 0-0 draw at Swansea, and Madrid’s in a shock 1-0 home defeat to Betis. Real may be missing the creativity of Gareth Bale, but it is a squad packed to the brim with star quality and Ronaldo is likely to take centre stage again.

Harry Kane has been on fire for club and country in the last few weeks, and he will be Spurs’ best hope of finding the net. The rumours that Real Madrid may be ready to test Tottenham’s resolve with a bid for the England striker persist, and he will have a chance to experience the atmosphere at this famous stadium first hand. Dele Alli will be a big miss for Pochettino’s men, and it will fall to Christian Eriksen to provide the ammunition.

Real are always capable of conceding goals due to their attacking nature, and although Spurs may well get on the scoresheet, Zindane’s men are fancied to come out on top.

Manchester City v Napoli

Manchester City’s last six games have featured an incredible 26 goals. Napoli’s last six have featured 24. Both sides have won each of those six games, and it would be no surprise at all to see another high-scoring game on Tuesday. Odds of 2.02Bet €100 to win €20251/50Bet £100 to win £202+102Bet $100 to win $2021.02Bet HK$100 to win HK$2021.02Bet Rp100 to win Rp202-0.9804Bet RM100 to win RM202  with 888Sport about over 3.5 goals would look short in the normal run of things, but under these circumstances, it’s a good bet.

Pep Guardiola has his team purring at the moment, and they smashed Stoke 7-2 in the Premier League over the weekend. the Citizen’s have been better in terms of clean sheets lately, but they have still managed to concede in games against Bournemouth, Everton and West Brom recently and Napoli are head and shoulders above those teams.

The Naples club are top of Serie A and are throwing down a domestic challenge to Juventus. After the weekend games, Man City are top of the Premier League, so this is a real clash of titans. While there is always a chance that they will cancel each other out, it appears more likely that this will be a free-flowing game with plenty of action.

Leipzig v Porto

Finally, we’re going to side with the ‘underdog’ by backing Porto to beat Leipzig at 3.60Bet €100 to win €36013/5Bet £100 to win £360+260Bet $100 to win $3602.60Bet HK$100 to win HK$3602.60Bet Rp100 to win Rp360-0.3846Bet RM100 to win RM360  with BetVictor.

Porto are top of the Portuguese League and have already beaten Monaco 3-0 on the road in the Champions League this season. They are a side with a wealth of experience in top-level European football, and that stands them in good stead. They’ve won four of their last five games, scoring 16 goals in the process. Also in their favour is the lay of the land in group G, which means that Leipzig must attack in search of points and Porto can hit them on the break.

The German club are third in the Bundesliga behind Dortmund and Bayern, but are finding out how difficult it is to step up that level to the Champions League. They’ve won two and drawn two at home this season across all competitions, but this is arguably the toughest test so far. At the odds, Porto are worth a small punt to come away with three points.
