Seahawks To Overcome Texans On Home Soil

October 27, 2017

The Seattle Seahawks have found their form in the 2017 season, winning their last three matches on the bounce to threaten the Los Angeles Rams at the top of the NFC West.

The Seahawks had a slow start to the season, losing their opener at the hands of the Green Bay Packers and then suffering a defeat on the road to the Tennessee Titans. However, their win over the New York Giants proved that Pete Carroll’s men are finding their feet in the campaign.

Quarterback Russell Wilson was able to dissect the Giants’ defense. He threw for 339 yards and three touchdowns, including a strike to Jimmy Graham. Wilson has been up and down to start the term, but has displayed in the past that he’s capable of successive matches of brilliance.

Seattle’s defence remains one of the elite units in the NFL. However, they face a tough challenge in the form of Deshaun Watson, who has enjoyed an outstanding start to his career. He will test them with his legs and his arm at CenturyLink Field.

Houston face a battle to remain competitive in the AFC South this season without the presence of their two best defenders. JJ Watt and Whitney Mercilus were ruled out for the campaign in their defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs. They hammered the Cleveland Browns last time out, but will need to raise the level of performance to overcome the Seahawks.

Watson has been incredible since replacing Tom Savage as the club’s starting quarterback. However, ‘The Legion of Boom’ will be his toughest examination as a professional yet.

We’ll now break down both sides’ recent form and look at the latest betting odds for the contest on Sunday.

The Seahawks took a step in the right direction in their win over the Giants after their bye week. Wilson and his offense had struggled for rhythm in the early stages of the campaign. They did put 46 points up against the Indianapolis Colts, although the figure was aided by two defensive scores.

Wilson found his form and connected with his wide receivers with regularity to inspire the Seahawks’ win over New York. Doug Baldwin notched nine receptions and 92 yards for a touchdown. Seattle’s offense goes through the wideout – when he performs well, Carroll’s men are usually firing on all cylinders.

Baldwin has not been at his best due to the struggles of his side passing the ball. However, his performance will give the club confidence that they are heading on the right track, while Graham’s touchdown highlights his presence in the endzone. Seattle need the duo to spark up their offense due to their issues in the running game.

The Seahawks have a host of running backs, but they have not found life easy on the ground. Rookie Chris Carson leads the way with 208 yards, but the problems have come from Eddie Lacy’s struggles along with Thomas Rawls and CJ Prosise’s injury troubles.

Defensively, Carroll’s men remain one of the best units in the league. Their secondary has continued to flourish this term, while their linebacking corps has been stout as ever. One issue could be the pass-rush with only 12 sacks to their names this season.

Cliff Avril’s neck injury has ruled him out for the term, while Michael Bennett cannot do it all alone. Frank Clark has notched 2.5 sacks, but the Seahawks need more from Sheldon Richardson, Jarran Reed and Marcus Smith.

Houston Texans

Clowney needs to step up

The Texans’ preparations for the contest have been hit by scandal. Owner Bob McNair has hit the headlines for comments he made about the NFL players during an owners’ meeting in New York. Star wideout DeAndre Hopkins walked out of training along with nine other players, although they are expected to be available for the match.

McNair has apologised for his comments, but the damage appears to be have been done. It remains to be seen what effect it has on the Texans’ performance on Sunday, but it is the last thing Bill O’Brien needed preparing his team for a tough challenge on the road.

Houston have faced adversity already this season with the loss of Watt an Mercilus. They now need to rise to the occasion once again to put emotions aside and search for their fourth win of the campaign in order to keep pace with the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC South.

Watson has been brilliant for the club since assuming starting duties. The 22-year-old has thrown 15 touchdowns in his last four matches, with only five interceptions to his name this term. He has been the source of inspiration the Texans have been searching for at the quarterback position, giving them hope for the future.

He will have his work cut out against the vaunted Seattle defense, but he has shown pedigree against the New England Patriots and Chiefs, despite both contests ending in defeat. However, Watson has another opportunity to showcase and develop his talent against one of the elite teams in the NFL.

Jadeveon Clowney and Bernardick McKinney have to stand up and be counted. Without Watt and Mercilus – Houston need both players to take the next step forward to become star defensive players that their talent suggests they are capable of achieving.

Betting Options

The Seahawks’ schedule has been packed with road matches early in the campaign. Seattle have just played two games at CenturyLink Field, beating the San Francisco 49ers and the Colts. They’re an extremely tough nut to track on home soil and should be able to defeat the Texans.

Watson has been impressive, but Seattle’s defense has too much quality and experience for him to take on in a hostile environment.
