Both Team to Score Bets Add Up in Championship

The Championship is one of those divisions where the old adage ‘anyone can beat anyone’ rings truer than ever. Wolves have stolen an early march to lead England’s second tier, but just eleven points separate the top thirteen clubs in the league and it can all change very quickly. Fixtures this week look particularly hard to call from a results angle, but there are some good bets to be had in the ‘both teams to score’ markets, based on recent form.

At the wrong end of the table is recently promoted Bolton and the Trotters have occupied that position for most of the season. A run of seven straight defeats in the early stages was devastating, but results have picked up over the last few fixtures and there is some light at the end of the tunnel. Remarkably, Bolton are only four points adrift of safety and still have plenty to play for. They entertain Norwich on Saturday – a side that was tipped to go up by many, but one which has stuttered through the season so far. At least in 9th place they are within touching distance of the play off positions, but back-to-back home defeats to Derby and Wolves have dented confidence.

Their East Anglian neighbours, Ipswich, are only a couple of places and one point behind. The Tractor Boys host Preston this weekend with the Whites winless in five games and coming off the back of three straight defeats. Neither side has a habit of keeping clean sheets, and while it is hard to pick a winner, it’s not hard to predict goals.

the same can be said of our favourite team for betting on in this division, Nottingham Forest, who continue to score and ship goals at a high rate. This week sees them entertain QPR, who under Ian Holloway have just scored wins against two of the top three in Sheffield United and Wolves. Once again, clean sheets are a seldom seen sight for fans of both clubs, and a high-scoring game would hardly come as a shock.

Both sides have found the net in each of Bolton’s last four games, which have resulted in three draws and a win for the Lancashire club. They shook off that seven-game losing run with a 2-1 victory over Sheffield United, and have since played out score draws with QPR, Fulham and Sunderland. Fighting for their lives, Bolton will see any home game as a chance to earn a precious three points, and that should ensure an attacking strategy.

Norwich have flattered to deceive at times this season, playing some decent possession football but not getting the results to go with it. They looked to have found their groove after a nine-game unbeaten run led them into a fine draw away at Arsenal in the Carabao Cup, but after losing that game in extra-time, they went on to lose two in a row to Derby and Wolves. Ironically, they might be glad to be back on the road because their home form would have them 17th in the table, while away form would see them 4th. Prior to that defeat at the Gunners, Norwich had won five in a row on their travels.
