Everton and West Ham to Combine for Goals

Spurs let us down last night when they lost 2-1 at Leicester, but Newcastle’s draw at West Brom saved our betting bacon and made it a marginally profitable night overall. We hope to do much better in Wednesday’s games and the first port of call is Goodison Park where Everton welcome West Ham.

The Toffees appear to be on the verge of appointing former Hammers manager Sam Allardyce to the vacant role at Goodison, while West Ham have only recently employed former Everton boss David Moyes. Big Sam might be just the man to steady the ship on the blue half of Merseyside, and if he comes in, he’ll be taking over a side which has conceded nine goals in the last two games. The goals conceded column makes grim reading for West Ham fans too, and one of Moyes’ tasks at his new club is to bring structure and organisation. The sides are 17th and 18th in the Premier League table, and surprisingly, this is an early relegation battle.

In other games on Wednesday, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea are all short odds to claim home wins, and each side should do the business. In search of better prices though, we’re looking to Burnley as they visit Bournemouth and the match at Stoke where the Potters entertain Liverpool.

Both sides are trying to tighten up at the back after some heavy defeats, but there is no guarantee any improvement will be evident in Wednesday’s televised match. Everton suffered a 4-1 thrashing at Southampton, a result which followed their 5-1 beating at the hands of Atalanta in the Europa League last week. Even if Sam Allardyce does come in as the new manager, he can have little effect in this fixture. David Unsworth is in temporary charge, but over recent weeks the Toffees have played out a 3-2 victory over Watford and a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace. They are yet to keep a clean sheet in the Premier League this season and have won just three of thirteen fixtures.

It’s worse for West Ham, who have just two wins to their name and remain in the relegation zone. The Irons have failed to win any of their last six Premier League games, and in Moyes’ two matches in charge, have gained just a point from the 1-1 draw with Leicester. The former Everton boss would surely enjoy a successful return to the ground where he made his name, and will also be acutely aware that the Hammers’ next three fixtures are against Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal.

These two teams are separated by one place and two points at the bottom end of the table and a victory could be hugely significant for the winner in terms of top-flight survival.

Bournemouth v Burnley

Sean Dyche was left fuming after Arsenal’s late penalty at Turf Moor, where he felt his side were deserving of at least a point. They are still 7th in the table though and had won the previous three games without conceding a goal. They’ve only been beaten once on their travels this term – 3-0 away at Manchester City – and are decent value to get something here.

Bournmouth are also in good form after victories against Newcastle and Huddersfield, and a draw away at Swansea. Their home form still leaves a little to be desired though as they’ve only won 2 of 6 home games, suffering three defeats.

Stoke v Liverpool

The last three meetings between these two sides have had at least three goals, and few football fans need an introduction to Liverpool’s attacking mindset. Seven of the Reds last eight games have exceeded the 2.5 goal line, the one exception being the weekend’s 1-1- draw with Chelsea.

Stoke have traditionally been known as a low-scoring side but that’s never really been the case under Mark Hughes, who has instilled a different brand of football with the Potters. More expansive and more entertaining, Stoke have also been more prone to featuring in high-scoring games of late. They have a similar record to Liverpool – where seven of their last eight matches have had three or more goals.

In terms of league position, Liverpool are in 6th place and in need of points to put pressure on the top four, while Stoke are only three points clear of the drop zone and need points to avoid the relegation battle. This should be an open game and we expect plenty of goalmouth action.
