New Manager Syndrome at Everton and West Brom

December 1, 2017

Wayne Rooney scored a hat trick against West Ham in the 4-0 win.

It was a cracking round of fixtures in the Premier League during the week and after an average Tuesday night, we hit a winning treble of bets on Wednesday night. Burnley won at Bournemouth to land the odds, while Everton and Liverpool both secured comfortable wins to land the over 2.5 goal bets.

Wayne Rooney scored a hat-trick against West Ham at Goodison in the 4-0 win, including an early contender for goal of the season. His pinpoint strike from inside his own half brought up Everton’s third goal and effectively ended West Ham’s hopes. It was a perfect welcome to new manager Sam Allardyce who takes charge for the first time in Saturday’s game versus Huddersfield. The Toffees’ midweek result saw them leap above the Terriers in the league table, and the momentum of that win plus a new manager could carry them to victory on Saturday.

Another club that appointed a new manager during the week is West Brom – the Baggies have tasked Alan Pardew with reviving their fortunes after stagnating under Tony Pulis. Although they are only outside of the relegation zone by two points, West Brom have the perfect opportunity to get the new era off to a good start with the visit of Crystal Palace this weekend. Pardew’s former club are languishing at the bottom of the table under Roy Hodgson, although the did claim their first away point at Brighton on Tuesday night.

Away from the lower reaches of the Premier League table, we’ve been riding the Burnley bandwagon for quite some time now and the Clarets could provide another good bet this weekend. Sean Dyche takes his high-flying side to Leicester on Saturday seeking to maintain their excellent away record this season.

Everton v Huddersfield

Sam Allardyce can get his Everton rein underway with a win over Huddersfield at odds of 1.73Bet €100 to win €17373/100Bet £100 to win £173-137Bet $100 to win $1730.73Bet HK$100 to win HK$173-1.37Bet Rp100 to win Rp1730.7300Bet RM100 to win RM173  with BetVictor.

The Toffees climbed to 13th place in the Premier League table with the trouncing of West Ham but they remain a mere five points above the drop zone. Sam Allardyce is well-known for his ability to galvanise a team and manage the battle against relegation, so his appointment on Merseyside represents a pragmatic decision by the Everton top brass. Their issues at the back have been well-documented and the defence will be Big Sam’s top priority, so Wednesday’s clean sheet will have been a boost to all. However, Everton have won the last two home games against the Hammers and Watford, and welcome a Huddersfield side which has lost four of it’s last five.

The Terriers were thumped 5-0 at Arsenal on Wednesday night, a result that came hot on the heels of a 4-0 drubbing at Bournemouth. After an incredible start to the season, Huddersfield are coming back down to earth and facing up to the daunting task of staying in the top-flight. There have been good results at home – such as the 2-1 win over Manchester United – but on the road they have lost six of the last seven in all competitions and have failed to score in any of them.

West Brom v Crystal Palace

Another side which should take advantage of their home status and a goal-shy visiting team is West Brom, who can be backed at 2.50Bet €100 to win €2503/2Bet £100 to win £250+150Bet $100 to win $2501.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$2501.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp250-0.6667Bet RM100 to win RM250  with Bet365.

The Eagles grabbed their first away point in the Premier League this season with a 0-0 draw at Brighton. However, they are still to score a single goal on the road in seven games and lost every other one of them. Hodgson’s side have shown improvement in recent weeks and are not cut adrift at the bottom by any stretch, but it is hard to feel confident about Palace getting a result away from home.

The Baggies are traditionally a strong side in front of their own fans and Alan Pardew has a reputation for a ‘bounce’ in form when he comes into a new club. West Brom are only three points and three places ahead of Palace and this game definitely has the ring of a relegation battle around it. Despite a poor season and a lot of draws, the only sides that have beaten West Brom at the Hawthorns this term are Chelsea and Manchester City. Given that there is bound to a positive atmosphere on Saturday, it is worth taking decent odds about a home win.

Leicester v Burnley

We’ll stick with Burnley again this weekend by backing them to get at least a point at Leicester – the double chance quoted at odds of 2.08Bet €100 to win €20827/25Bet £100 to win £208+108Bet $100 to win $2081.08Bet HK$100 to win HK$2081.08Bet Rp100 to win Rp208-0.9259Bet RM100 to win RM208  with 888Sport.

The Foxes held out for a 2-1 win over Spurs in midweek which will inspire plenty of confidence, but they come up against a side here which is clear 6th in the table – ahead of Tottenham. That victory helped Leicester climb to 9th in the league, but they’ve only won 3 of 7 home fixtures this term and are by no means a strong favourite here.

The only away trip that Burnley have lost this season was the one to the Etihad where Manchester City ran out 3-0 winners. Other than that, the Clarets are unbeaten on their travels with four wins and 2 draws from the other six away games. The win at Bournemouth made it four wins from five games overall and they have the best defence outside of the top three. At the odds on offer, Burnley are good value to come away with another good result on the road.
