Unlike their European counterparts, players in the Premier League get no Christmas break and no time off over the festive period. Four of Watford’s last six matches have featured three or more goals and their early-season defensive tightness has deserted them. The most recent 4-1 home defeat to Huddersfield was a humiliating result and continued their poor run of four losses in five matches. The Cherries face the unenviable task of playing Manchester City ahead of this game, so a return to home soil will be more than welcome on Boxing Day. Four of their last six games have featured more than three goals, and Eddie Howe’s side are winless in seven. Bournemouth will see a home match against a relegation rival as a crucial three points up for grabs.

West Ham may adopt a similar attitude, particularly if they get the better of Newcastle at the London Stadium on Saturday. The Hammers are unbeaten in three Premier League games with three clean sheets in a row – a good run of form considering two opponents were Chelsea and Arsenal. While there is the concern that under Moyes West Ham have taken a much more defensive approach, they showed in the 3-0 win at Stoke that they have the ability to come out and attack against teams on their ‘level’.
