Bank on a Premier League Boxing Day Goal Bonanza

December 22, 2017

It's a full fixture list in the Premier League on Boxing Day.

Unlike their European counterparts, players in the Premier League get no Christmas break and no time off over the festive period. Instead, in keeping with the traditions of English football, there is a three-game blitz over the course of Christmas week – a vital escape for the country’s football fans!

Boxing Day, in particular, has thrown up some unusual results over the years and more often than not, plenty of high-scoring games. There are several matches 24 hours after Christmas Day which meet the criteria, so we’re backing goals galore as teams line up for the second time in four days.

Watford have had a remarkable first half of the season, scoring a number of impressive results and spending a great deal of time in the top half of the table. However, a run of four defeats in five games sees them clinging on to 10th place and that coveted top half spot. The Hornets entertain Leicester on Boxing Day and the two sides can combine for at least three goals. The Foxes have been in decent form over recent weeks and the goals have been flowing.

The goals have been flowing in Bournemouth games too, but the Cherries have not been getting the results to match. It’s seven games without a win for Eddie Howe and his men, but the last three against Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United have been tough. West Ham have been much tighter under David Moyes but opened up in the 3-0 win at Stoke, and matches between these two sides usually feature goals.

Spurs and Southampton get the football underway in the early kick off and that match could get the ball rolling in terms of our bets. All of these sides will have played another fixture prior to the Boxing Day matches – Spurs are away at Burnley while Southampton host Huddersfield – but these two have a history of entertaining games and it will be no surprise to see a high-scoring game to get the day up and running.

Watford v Leicester

Over 2.5 goals is quoted at odds of 1.87Bet €100 to win €18787/100Bet £100 to win £187-115Bet $100 to win $1870.87Bet HK$100 to win HK$187-1.15Bet Rp100 to win Rp1870.8700Bet RM100 to win RM187  with 888Sport when Leicester travel to Watford.

Four of Watford’s last six matches have featured three or more goals and their early-season defensive tightness has deserted them. The most recent 4-1 home defeat to Huddersfield was a humiliating result and continued their poor run of four losses in five matches. They face a tricky away tie at Brighton on Saturday before this match. Recent games – such as the 4-2 defeat to Manchester United – show that the Hornets take the game to anyone in front of their own fans, and it could be an explosive afternoon.

Leicester, along with their deadly duo of Mahrez and Vardy, are more than capable of making this a memorable match. Recent results have included a 3-2 win at Newcastle, a 4-1 win at Southampton, and a 3-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace. Given Watford’s likely attacking approach, Leicester are well-armed to hit them on the break.

Bournemouth v West Ham

Over 2.5 goals is a very good price of 2.15Bet €100 to win €21523/20Bet £100 to win £215+115Bet $100 to win $2151.15Bet HK$100 to win HK$2151.15Bet Rp100 to win Rp215-0.8696Bet RM100 to win RM215  with Jetbull when West Ham visit Bournemouth on the South coast.

The Cherries face the unenviable task of playing Manchester City ahead of this game, so a return to home soil will be more than welcome on Boxing Day. Four of their last six games have featured more than three goals, and Eddie Howe’s side are winless in seven. Bournemouth will see a home match against a relegation rival as a crucial three points up for grabs.

West Ham may adopt a similar attitude, particularly if they get the better of Newcastle at the London Stadium on Saturday. The Hammers are unbeaten in three Premier League games with three clean sheets in a row – a good run of form considering two opponents were Chelsea and Arsenal. While there is the concern that under Moyes West Ham have taken a much more defensive approach, they showed in the 3-0 win at Stoke that they have the ability to come out and attack against teams on their ‘level’.

Tottenham v Southampton

Finally, Spurs and Southampton are backed to combine for goals in the first game of the day at odds of 1.75Bet €100 to win €1753/4Bet £100 to win £175-133Bet $100 to win $1750.75Bet HK$100 to win HK$175-1.33Bet Rp100 to win Rp1750.7500Bet RM100 to win RM175  with BetVictor.

Each of the last three meetings between the two teams has seen more than 2.5 goals, and this one can go the same way. Spurs’ form has been up and down this season – they’ve excelled in the Champions League, but as the 4-1 defeat to Man City shows, they have failed to compete at the top of the Premier League. At the time of writing Spurs sit 7th in the table and are in need of wins and points to challenge for the top four.

Southampton have been in poor form of late, going five without a win and suffering a 4-1 home defeat to Leicester before losing at Chelsea in the last two games. They have found the net in five of the last six games though, and are good enough to cause Spurs problems at the other end.
